Hassler

Saw on Twitter where Magee (MS) recruit Zay Franks announced he was no longer signing/committed to UCF. A UCF "fan" tweets back "WTF"....then someone who appears to be an assistant coach for Magee HS replies with "ask the UCF program why he's moving on. 9:30 before signing day is a tough time to find out there aren't enough scholarships"

That is terrible for that young guy. UCF must have known earlier than today this was going/could happen.

And speaking of Zay Franks...i see now on USM athletic website that he has signed with us along with a teammate of his from Magee. This puts us at 11 of the either 12 or 13 we can sign. I realize you take the best available but we are loading up on WR as this now makes 4 HS WR in this class. If nothing else, some or all of these 4 could possibly use a year on the scout team to mature and then have 4 years but as we all know everything doesn't always work out at planned

Zay Franks - WR
Chandler Pittman - WR/ATH

Or some could be moved to defense.

True. I can remember quite a few of Bower's signees doing this.

- Patrick Surtain - HS QB but ended up as USM and NFL DB
- Adalius Thomas - HS and USM TE but ended up as USM and NFL DE/LB
- Ty Trahan - HS QB but ended up as a starting LB
- Natone Stewart - HS and USM WR but ended up as starting LB his junior season
- Larry Watts - HS QB but USM DB/LB combo
- Jamaal Alexander - HS QB but USM starting DB by his sophomore season

Seems like UTSA has a good class. Happy to see so many recruits along our offensive and defensive lines. Some of our JUCO recruits are expected to sign in February.

I still remember the story of James McMahon. Signed with State, went up to Starkville on move in day and was told he didn't have a dorm. Contacted the coaches and found out he no longer had a scholarship. In the middle of his freakout (as anyone would be doing), he called Coach Berry and told him the situation. He had a dorm and a scholarship for USM within an hour. Turned into one of our best pitchers as well. It also caused a heavy State family to stop all donations to Starkville.

Very nice. Always a good thing to stock up on both lines. We could certainly use some. I am hoping our last few scholarships will be used on those positions.

Coach Dimel says almost all of the team, including seniors, will take advantage of the free year and come back. He says he only has about 5 scholarships to hand out. Signed 1 jc qb today may sign another 4 players in feb.

LA Tech planned to sign no more than 10 in the early signing period today. We lost a CB and replaced him with another one. Here are the signees...

Most places have us having the top rated class and willie got a qb transfer from Penn State but who knows. Rivals has us at 19 commits when we have 24 which is why utsa is first for now

I think y'all will ultimately end up being 1st in the official Rivals rankings. The 247 rankings have every single one of your recruits ranked as 3 stars. Rivals at least doesn't just automatically give every group of 5 recruit 3 stars.

RE: **CUSA Early Signing Day Thread**
I'm just excited to see USM finally signing players again who had offers besides just a SE Louisiana, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas and a bunch of SWAC schools. I realize coaches have to act excited about who they sign but it got old seeing our previous staff with tweets of "baller on board" then you see he only had 3 other offers all from FCS schools. Not saying we've turned the corner just yet but we're hopefully making progress.

The highest graded recruit was WR Caleb Johnson (very high 3*), a surprise and a last minute signing (moments ago). Flipped from OU with offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida St, and Georgia (among others).

16 signings today (3*). Had 14 going into the day and lost none of them.

I'm happy with the increasing quality of the skill players Littrell signs, but I still think he needs to bring in higher rated linemen on both sides of the ball. We need to get a lot better in the trenches.

I agree about the trenches. But, those are the hardest areas to recruit and the P5's usually snap up nearly all of the top talent IMO.

NT has had a top 3 CUSA recruiting class over the last 3 years and the last 3 years have been our best recruiting run ever. Talent eventually wins. The next few years are going to be an upswing for NT. Of course, first we have to get annihilated by Appy State in the bowl game :( I am dreading the fact that NT was selected for a bowl game this year.
