What to do with Marreon Jackson...
Marreon Jackson is a conundrum. He makes things happen with the ball, averages just under six assists per game and serves as the motor for our offense at times. But he's shooting just 30% from the field. Can the Rockets consistently win with him shooting as much as he does and missing as much as he does? Just look at how much he struggled shooting the ball in the losses to Bradley (6-of-21) and Xavier (5-of-18). This doesn't look like a formula for success.

Is TK going to just let Jackson do what he wants? Should he just be given the green light at all times? I feel like an offense works best when the point guard is getting everyone involved and looking for his shot as a secondary option. But Jackson can makes things happen for himself, too. There’s a give and take, and it’s hard to know how much leeway to give your point guard sometimes.

We'll see what happens...

So many new faces. I suspect everyone will settle in eventually-Rollins seems very comfortable letting fly at any time so, yeah, not a lot of productive ball movement at times but they’ll sort it out. Marreon doesn’t have the luxury of Luke in the middle or slipping out for a three and Willie hitting the O boards for putbacks. Might be taking on too much.

I get where your coming from. It's a juggling act when your best overall player is also your point guard. I like the fact that he is averaging over 6 assists per game which means he is doing a decent job distributing the ball to his teammates. What I like about MJ is his wanting to be the man, especially in crunch time. However, sometimes that leads to him trying to do too much. He's playing with 3 new starters so I'm hoping that its just a matter of him beginning to trust his teammates more so that he doesn't feel like he has to score all the time for the team to be successful. It's up to TK and the other coaches to stress to him that all he has to do is play within the confines of their system as there are plenty of other scoring options on the court with Rollins, Milner, Littleson and hopefully Edu when he gets back from his knee injury. Being the competitor he is, I am sure there will be times when he will need to take over a game which he is done on multiple occasions in the past.

Watched the replay on ESPN3 and I thought Jackson played a pretty good game. In the first half he set up his teammates regularly with wide open shots on some pretty slick passes but they just couldn't buy a basket. If a few more of those shots went down he could have easily been in double figures on assists.

Last year Keshaun Saunders had to play backup point. That was a nightmare. This year Rollins, Hill, Littleson and Milner can all handle the ball and make smart plays. The more they play together the better they will be. Defense in the paint and rim protection are the glaring weaknesses.

i think he's played subpar so far, but I'd expect his shooting percentages to even out over the course of the season. his finishing of drives has been weaker. not sure what that is about, but it may have to do with losing a giant 5 year big guy (knapke) who set great picks and ran a lot of 2 man game w marreon.

RE: What to do with Marreon Jackson...
to me it seemed every time Jackson touched the ball at the top of the key he was doubled, on drives he should have finished stronger. Teams know he is the key returning starter and the rest of the team other than Littleson didn't handle the ball much or well last year. I think Jackson has been a good facilitator, his shots will start falling and he will improve on his finishes. I'm not sure how much this Covid caused theses players to either not play pickup games or caused them to not be all together in off season. As a team I thing against CSU the pressure defense in the first half caused some issues, but once the team adjusted they played well in second half.

I think we shut up and let him play I don't care what he does in December unless they are playing a league game like they will be on Friday. If he plays in March like he played in March last year we will be fine. It will be better also when Edu is fully healthy they can get a 2 man game going.

He's the senior point guard and most time with the system. At this point he's the needed coach on the floor. I think the decisions need to be put in his hands to see if he's able to handle them. Better to find out early than late.
