Tigers vs UC by the numbers
This will be the biggest test of the season for the Tigers.

A road game against a legitimate top 10 school.

A team still bitter about losing two close games to the Tigers last year costing them a trip to the Cotton Bowl.

Tiger MUST control the ball and find a way to grind out a score on each possession.

The Bearcats will pressure our WRs tight and we must get space.

Clark must be able to grind out the yards and force them to bring another defender down into the box.

The Tigers pass defense is one of the worst in the nation right now but currently, the UC passing offense is not much better.

Ridder is a mobile QB who loves to run and has an RB in Doak who has the potential to put up big numbers quickly.

The defense must play assignment football when Ridder operates the run game. One misread and Ridder or Doaks could both take it the distance.

UC passing game relies almost solely on Jackson. If we can find a way to double him and take him out of the play, things could end on a positive note.

But there are only 11 guys on defense and the Tigers need someone to match up on Ridder and follow him on every play so doubling Jackson may not be an option.

We must win the turnover game and hopefully take advantage of a poor UC kick-off defense to give the Tigers offense a short field as ofter as possible.

But that only happens after they score. So not something we want to do very often in the game.

We REALLY need the weather to make it through the area on Friday so a wet ball will not be much of a concern.

We MUST have our offense clicking on all 8 cylinders and hope our nitrous bottles are purged and ready.

Honestly the gameplan should be simple. Stack the box, keep a spy on the QB, and force them to beat us with passing. Which is exactly why we will do the complete opposite.

Didn't UC have a big mobile TE with good hands last season?

Or am I confusing UC with SMU?

Honestly, the matchup isn't nearly as bad as I had feared. It seems like a much better match ups as their strengths play into our strengths, not our weaknesses.

Temple has a very highly rated defense going into our game as well. Had we not missed two FGs.... and that doesn't count the 3 turnovers.

Jackson is 198th out of 201 in receiving yards for UC. Tigers have 3 in the top 100 and 4 in the top 156.
If Clark can get enough yards to prevent them from doubling our receivers all we need to do is for our receivers to get separation, or hope they call the game close.

They were allowed to play very physical with the SMU receiver corps. Especially in the red zone.

We are going to need luck on our side to win this one. We need to win TOs, special teams and refereeing, that will be a tough row to hoe. Oh, and tackling wouldn't hurt either.

First and foremost, I don't think we can count on recovering from another egg-laying first half the way we did against Temple. And a lot of that egg laying was not related to what Temple was doing.
String together two good halves and I think we win.

Easy win as long as we score more points than they do.

The issue our DBs get beat so quickly and thoroughly that all a QB needs to do is put some air under the ball...He doesn't have to be terribly accurate.

Ridder doesn't throw the ball downfield. We aren't horrible against the run. We match up better defensively against them than we did against Temple. Offensively, no turnovers and we can still score 30-40 points on them.

I think Sean Dykes will be out equalizer, I've seen and read stuff about Cincinnati not good against guarding TEs
