MTA Police Officer Knocked Unconscious In West Baltimore
The person behind the camera was telling the other cops they’re next.
Quote:An on-duty Maryland Transit Administration police officer was knocked unconscious on Friday afternoon near a subway station in West Baltimore, according to officials and a social media post.
MTA spokeswoman Veronica Battisti confirmed Saturday morning that a suspect was taken into custody in the assault on an officer at the Upton Metro Station. The officer had been transported to a local hospital and was still recovering from non-life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon.
Battisti identified the suspect as 32-year-old Shaka Admed Sekuo Kamara Jr., and said he was apprehended with help from the Baltimore Police Department.
A photo that surfaced online Friday afternoon showed an officer unconscious and slumped against a wall, with a caption showing that it happened in the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Ave. Later, video of the incident began circulating widely on social media, depicting people standing over the officer saying he was “always talking [expletive]" and got “knocked the [expletive] out." In another clip, city officers can be seen tending to him while the man filming says they are “next.”
MDOT MTA Police said they were investigating the incident and anyone with information was asked to call 410-454-7720.
City Council President Brandon Scott tweeted Friday that he was made aware of the incident by city police. “The person who did this is a coward and must be brought to justice,” he wrote on Twitter.
The incident came one day after an on-duty MTA bus driver, 51-year-old Marcus Parks, was fatally shot on the city’s east side. Police announced the arrest of two suspects Friday morning.

While most of Baltimore is dangerous, that is a particularly rough area.

A really nice job of restoring the harbor front, but I would not be caught alone there after dark, and 3-4 blocks away it turns to absolute crap and stays that way for miles. I always preferred BWI when flying to DC--decent train connector, Dulles is just too far out, and National is a dump that makes LaGuardia look chic. But I haven't been back in several years, and no interest in going there now.

The wife and I went early this year when the Titans whipped the Ravens. Fans were really cool and we had a very good time all the way around. Went down to the harbor front and also just kind of did the historical stuff. Overall we enjoyed it. We also didn't go out at night really other than to the game. I expected the fans to give us a hard time, especially after the Titans won but it was class and respect from everyone. Went to Kansas City the next weekend. Total opposite. Fans were rude and the town was just meh.

Baltimore has a lot of history for sure, there's a very narrow slice of the city that is safe to visit, during the day, the majority of the city isn't safe anytime. I made a lot of great friends while I lived there, but the city is still a dumpster fire.
