And in the belief that nepotism sucks and merit has value, how many other university presidents inherited their high offices as hand-me-downs from their fathers? Is there a third generation of Falwells waiting in the wings?

Yes, this is the crux of the matter. No one is in any position to judge his lifestyle, given that what's described as happening involved consenting adults. But since he and his flock have taken it upon themselves to judge and even condemn others for "non-conventional" sexual behavior like this, Falwell is fair game.

I think I'm as offended by him throwing his wife under the bus for this as I am for the hypocrisy of the behavior itself. But not to worry. I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere, and it's not like he needs the money he was getting from Liberty.
