The only measurement they have is the ratings from Rivals and 247. Im sure they didn't have one person look at all the film of new starters and then rank them.

Names I do not think Ive seen:

Josh Adkins (UTSA)
Nick Tronti (FAU)
Tyrrell Pigrome (WKU)
Aaron Allen (LT)
Kalyan Wiggins (FIU)
Mike Collins (RICE)
Grant Wells (MU)
Gavin Hardison (UTEP)
Austin Aune/Jason Bean (UNT)
Hayden Wolff/Stone Smartt (ODU)

Except for Wells (Because I follow Marshall), I don't think Ive ever seen any of these names. Also I don't think think Ive ever seen one conference with over half of the conference with new starting QBs. Usually its 2-3 maybe 4 new starters in any given year.

Actually I guess that is 10 new starters. Thats just crazy.

Decent list but Max Bortenschlagher will probably start for FIU.
I heard Wiggins was taking reps at WR.

Lynum moved to WR, not Wiggins.
Ahh ok, how are you feeling about the QB room?

I think it will come down to Bortenschlagher (started 9 games) and Wiggins. I would lean more towards Wiggins with the shorten season but he is a bit like Tronti, more runner than passer. OL should be good enough to help the new QB.
Tronti can pass he was just more prone to throwing picks trying to force the ball into the end zone. He was at least more prone than Robison, who managed the ball very well.

God bless you.

People love them some TJ3. They obviously didn’t watch him last year against quality competition. Hoping the poor play in those games was just due to him being hurt.

Marshall fans dealt with Ben Roethlisfixmeahamburger for the three years we were sacking him, we can deal with Bortensgonnabeschlaghered as well.

He struggled in Boca. Our defense adjusted to a new system after a few games and really played tough. Even Shane Buchele struggled vs us.

The stats say Tronti only threw 1 pick. Tronti cmp to att is way better than Wiggins but 180 yard passing in 12 games or 172 in 11 games says both guys attempt to run more than pass.

Tronti
Career Passing Statistics
GP CMP ATT INT YDS TD Long AVG/P AVG/G
12 17 22 1 180 2 32 8.2 15.0

Wiggins
Career Passing Statistics
GP CMP ATT INT YDS TD Long AVG/P AVG/G
11 15 27 0 172 0 40 6.4 15.6

Tronti
Career Rushing Statistics
GP ATT YDS TD Long AVG/A AVG/G
12 51 239 2 35 4.7 19.9

Wiggins
Career Rushing Statistics
GP ATT YDS TD Long AVG/A AVG/G
11 49 323 3 70 6.6 29.4

In a normal year he might have been pushed by a transfer, and still might - I'm cautiously optimistic but anytime you've got a new (or mostly new in this case) QB, it's a little scary.

He is still a new QB, until you get half or over half of a season under your belt as a starter you are still new. I just watched the hi-lights of the LA Tech Marshall game. Allan was 19-32 for 158 yards. From what I seen he was a bit to happy with his feet which can be chalked up to not ever being a IA starter before. He also didn't go though his progressions very often, if his number one receiver wasn't open he got antsy and didn't look to drop it off to his check down guy. If he has matured and get his happy feet under control I think he can be an effective QB for LA Tech.

It wasn't Allen that lost that game for LA Tech it was the punt fumbled at the 2 yard line with 1:03 left on the clock in the 2nd period and the shotgun snap over Allen's head that set Marshall up at their own 40.

Yeah, I don't blame him for that loss (either of them). He didn't lose those games, but he also wasn't quite ready to win them for us (if that makes sense).

Wish we were opening with an FCS team instead of a Dave Aranda defense.

Thats what happens when you have to put a "Cold Starter" in. Especially in the last 1/3 of the season where he has probably taken less than 20 snaps in a practice the whole season.

The craziness that has been going on might just be a blessing for our projected starter Grant Wells. Instead of starting off with ECU, who I still don't believe is up to speed. He gets to start with EKU. Even though ECU still isn't up to speed the EKU defense is probably at least 2 steps slower.
