I don't understand how it can be disrespectful if your whole point is to get people to cheer for and support your team. This isn't the 'D-league' to a major team called the 'white-men'... It's the team. Hail to the Redskins. Hail victory. Braves on the warpath. Fight for old, DC. You've got rich white men singing that song....
Yes, if you take the term completely out of context and randomly call someone a redskin... it COULD be taken as (or intended to be) offensive, or it simply could be... white skinned man, black skinned man, brown skinned man, red skinned man.
I don't really have a dog in this fight... I couldn't personally care less, even though I grew up with the Redskins and the Senators. If 'they' want to change it, so be it....
I just find it insulting to be insulted by it. If we called them the Washington Women and someone were offended by that, it would be because they found women to be inferior. Those fans seeking to call them "Women' would only do so to imply power and strength.... not weakness.
