Progressives try to cancel science
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articl..._lose.html

"...Obesity, ACE receptors, COVID-19 are medical facts. Their interrelationship is not proven but is discussed in the medical literature. Dr. Anthony Fauci has also alluded to underlying medical conditions among African Americans as a possible explanation for increased mortality from COVID-19. As scientists struggle to understand COVID-19, it would be irresponsible to rule out any relevant factors.

Yet Blight and Black equated the well-studied epidemiology of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, race, ACE receptors and COVID-19, with junk science – specifically, the quack 19th century phrenology phenomenon. They essentially say that it is racist to think beyond sociological factors. The historians said my remarks, which were based on medical literature, “reflect a bafflingly persistent belief in America: that our society has vanquished racism....” "

In Mississippi, of the total of 28,770 reported cases, 14,137 are Black. Of the 1092 reported deaths, 547 are Black. Also, 529 of the reported deaths are linked to Long Term Care Facilities. The population of White to Black in Mississippi is approximately 2 to 1 but the number of cases per race are just about the opposite. Whites consist of 7,955 of the reported cases. Just over half as many as Black folks. There needs to be a study on why. I'm sure somebody has done it but it must not fit the narrative.

True. What we have witnessed over the past few months are politicians and un-elected 'experts' posing as politicians setting policies that make no sense when one looks at the actual science. When your experts waffle and give contradictory advice, people stop listening because they've destroyed their own credibility. Governors create policies they say are based on science but when questioned on "what science?" they dissemble, mumble and don't answer or give nonsensical answers. Although we have plenty of stupid people in our population, we're not all that dumb that we don't realize when we're being played. That is where we are.

I've become convinced that a disproportionate % of our stupid population is in politics.

I wish it would, but when the answers science generates can hurt people's psyches, their are agents in place to slander and shield them from the truth.

There is some additional context to the bolded. Politicians in an effort to be seen as 'doing something' leaned on viral experts for advice. No problem what that IMO as politicians are at least acknowledging they don't have the answer. The problem that arose once more data came is how to balance public health versus economic stability. The scientific experts can't help with that conundrum. Finally, once the public had made a decision that they had enough of the quarantine, governments needed a reopening plan lest they appear impotent.

There wasn't a plan for such a scenario and winging generated predictable results.

Over the past two decades, I've become much more skeptical of those who go into politics. Anybody willing to put up with the abuse they will suffer to do the job has to have a thick skin. I worry about electing somebody who seems to want the job of President a bit too much. Hillary fit that profile for me. It is all about power for some of them. Put these people in a position of power and you find out about their inner authoritarian.
