Having a med school is a very good thing for a university. Everybody looks at endowment numbers and those are important but university medical centers and affiliated health care practices throw off a lot of income. Many of these health care systems would be valued in the billions of dollars.

Medical schools are very important, not only to the university, but to the community as well. UofL bought Jewish Hospital here in Louisville last fall.
