I treat arm-chair pharmacologists/immunologists like I treat arm-chair quarterbacks... with a big eye-roll and a "sure Jan". Unfortunately, some of the naysayers will go out, expose someone else, and people will die. And they'll never know they did it.
I'll trust the medical professional and PhD holding spokespersons before I trust a talking head looking for their next news segment.

Rural Arkansas is now exploding with positive tests as 130 new cases with two deaths. Rural areas are hitting hard now. Look, with 1410 cases with 29 deaths which we are Little New York City. Wyoming finally have their first death today. Only American Samoa have none so far.

I don't see how his political beliefs affect his expertise as a virologist. Even his more draconian fantasies are IMO informed by his primary job of preventing viral transmission by any means necessary.
But Fauci's perspective (which he freely admits) limited to his field of expertise. From today's briefing I felt he defended Trump stating the POTUS followed his and Dr. Brix's recommendations in spite the fact that that he had downplayed the threat days earlier.

Well, to be fair, in the case of the OP link, the arm-chair pharmacologist/immunologist QBs aren't "you guys" here, they are GOP Congressmen, with a little more weight than your typical arm chair dudes, so there's that...
...and they aren't second guessing Fauci's expertise, simply expressing a reasonable concern also expressed by Trump, hoping the cure isn't worse than the disease.
I'm not taking sides, just reporting what was said, but I do think we really won't know the answer until well after this thing is controlled by a vaccine...if ever we really know...no easy answers...

Don't look for a vaccine. This virus is reemerging. Look for a treatment regimen that force the virus into remission/hiding, as we do with HIV.

Okay, let me rephrase. I'm looking for whatever brings this under control, so at some point we can look back retroactively and learn lessons. How's that?

If the people in Arkansas did not consider their 12-year old nieces fair game for playing “hide the salami” with creepy Uncle Cletus, the cases of Covid-19 and inbreeding birth defects would be much lower. Clean up your own damned house before commenting on someone else’s.

Anyone who has any experience with doctors knows, even with all their education, they are not much different than a backyard mechanic... Sure some things show up really easy to diagnose and it's all good. But, the moment they run into something that requires more than a blood test and an antibiotic they turn into that backyard mechanic..
Oh, lets replace this fuel injector.. well, that didnt work... lets replace this sensor... hrm, that didnt work either.. we can try doing this.. ugh, that made it worse.. Lets throw this at it... ok that wasnt good....

A Yikes choice of words.
For those of us with a soul:
Rural Arkansas positive test have accounted for 130 new cases including two deaths recently. Rural areas are being hit harder now which is worrisome. Wyoming also saw their first death today. American Samoa is the only territory that has not been impacted with COVID-19 mortality yet.

In Europe, I think France, they tested 80 patients with that drug that Trump praises, and it failed. Same number of people died along with the numbers from the 90 who were not treated. 9 cases of the test patients now have heart damage. Where do you think Trump got this idea that this drug would cure people? China was the one did this first.

France was the first peer reviewed, controlled study published that showed great promise for Hydroxychloroquine. Unless you've seen and read a new, different study, someone's feeding you a bowl of bullschit.
And, yes. I read the study, you can too if you like.
Pro-tip, don't take the fishbowl cleaner instead.
