I would think Jarreau would be a much bigger loss, but y'all would know better than I would.
Edit: didn't realize Jarreau's shooting numbers had dropped so much this year, so "much bigger loss" is probably a stretch. Would still probably rather have Jarreau than Grimes just for his leadership though.
dejon's value to houston isnt shooting, so i wouldnt use that to determine his value... both both would be big losses in their own ways
as far as grimes "expectations to leave" he said preseason he only wanted to come back 1 more year...him and coaches in different interviews have also noted that he was flat told he would be drafted had he left last year (just not as high as he wanted)... from a basketball perspective he could definitely use another year especially to build his confidence but you potentially have money in the nba
if you look at our away grimes has carried us in our away games, his is one of the few players that plays better in away games..averagin 15 and 40% from 3 in away games
Thanks for the insight. I figured Jarreau's value came more from intangibles (toughness, leadership, etc) but when I had originally posted I was thinking of him as a solid 3pt shooter. Didn't realize he had regressed from the 36% clip he was hitting them at last year. That was the only reason I figured he would be a significantly bigger loss than Grimes. Also didn't realize Grimes was shooting so well from deep away from home.
I know you said they would both be a big loss on their own way, but just curious; if you could only have one back between the 2, who would you want it to be?

Jarreau learned his leadership skills from Scruff McGruff.

dejon is a leader, but i wasnt talking intangibles... dejon isnt a shooter but he runs our offense and the best passer on our roster..there are few poeple that can keep up with him off the dribble...if you leave him 1 on 1 he is driving on you with ease...but few teams do that. dejon values is his ability to move defenses...after he beats his initial defender, another defender always helps, making someone else open, or creating a bad switch ..he is also almost 6'6 playing the point (with long arms even for someone 6'5) so shooting over him is hard
here is his sophomore highlight reel which better explains it: https://youtu.be/W1tLoTZWilU?t=137
its very similar with grimes..grimes is a drastically better shooter than dejon, but what amkes him special isnt shooting... they both do the same thing but in different ways..both are deadly in 1 on 1..dejon becuase he is agile...grimes becuase he is strong..70% of the time grimes drive he scores or draws a foul...and he is a great passer, and elite on defnse..he just isnt as aggressive as youd like..
if i had to chose 1, id say dejon....im a believer in senior urgency..it a belief you play your best at the end of your senior season when you have something on the line, because you know there is no more basketball ,and last chance to prove yourself...sampson noted how you see it all over the league...scott, igbanu, vital, jaime....our center chris harris this year....a senior dejon would be special..grimes would only be a 20yr old junior
dont get me wrong i think both would be special..just taking the senior

Completely agree with the bolded, and was going to cite vital as an example myself

Yeah Jarron hasn’t looked right since he aggravated his foot at Wichita. It’s a shame so much of his year has been hampered by injury issues.

Shame of this year is despite all the holes with healthy jarron they have something. Really missed out on a great senior year. A ton of lingering injuries. We got flashes but not the full jarron

USF has 3 fouls. 2 have been Harvey working his ass off on defense to draw an illegal screen. Love his effort so far.

Their 27% 3 point shooter has 4 3s.
Our 12% 3 point shooter has 2 3s.

Flip on ESPNU. USF had 1 defensive foul in the first 20 minutes. Pretty amazing.

That’s pretty surprising. That’s one team that may play more aggressive than Houston.

Yea. They have fouled at a high rate this year. Uc draws fouls at a high rate 2. Naturally 1 defensive foul for the half. Not sure I've seen that before. Well done usf.
