Coq,

Thanks for the imagestation site. I'll give 'er a try in a week or so when I'm done.

On the Matrix, I'm not a big Matrix fan. Really didn't care for the first one.....though the special effects were interesting to watch. I may wait to catch the sequel when it hits cable.

I'm looking forward to the Hulk. I think us comic fans are going to like that one.

As for X2......Phoenix DID die in the comics, back in the late 70s. She was brought back. I don't know any further details, because I was never really a reader of the X-Men. Never really cared for the new X-Men or the stories......but I enjoy the movies! Go figure!! That may be the only comic book I bought off the stands strictly for investment purposes (because in the early 80s it was the hottest comic book around!).

On that note, I'm hearing more and more about a Fantastic Four movie. THAT truly would be "fantastic".....

Never read X-men either. As you may remember, I was exclusively into Sword & Sorcery comics as a kid.

I forgot that you're so-so about the Matrix! I'm just the opposite. To paraphrase Cypher, if I had to pick a favorite flick, it would be tough, but "I'd choose The Matrix."

I am, so far, very unimpressed by "The Hulk." Is it supposed to look so cartoony? The CGI looks even worse than the horrible Spider-Man effects.

Which, btw, I caught on HD HBO last night. Looked good everywhere but the CGI. A shame that they cheaped out in that department.

I've only seen the trailer.........it looked OK to me......but it sounds like you saw it more detail than I did. I think they WERE going for a comic book look.......but it could be bad if they overdid it. We'll see.

Non-comic fans, especially those who only know the Hulk from the TV show, are going to have a hard time with this one. The Hulk, you have to remember, was never like he was depicted on TV. He's three times as big as most humans, can leap from town to town with no problem, is supposed to be the stongest mortal on Earth and talks. That may prove to be a huge leap (no pun intended!) for many movie goers who aren't familiar with the comics' fantastic (or should i say "incredible"!! 03-wink ) nature.

I think it's going to boil down to the supporting characters, the villian and the sets. I hope they don't blow it. If it were me, I'd pick The Leader as the villian. The Leader was a guy who also was affected by Gamma Rays. But rather than being made physically strong, he became MENTALLY superior. So it made for some interesting stories....with The Leader calling The Hulk a "dumb brute" or an "idiotic baffoon" a lot. LOL...

I would have no problem with the movie being more true to the comic, as I was never that big a fan of the TV series. (I think the TV series kept the Hulk "mute" because of Lou Ferigno's lack of acting ability...not as a departure from the comic's origins).

But, what I've seen of the previews (basically a few commercials and the LONG preview before X2), the CGI looks awful. I have to think it's intended that way for, as you say, a "comic book feel" but it just looks bad to me.

I have to believe what I'm seeing on screen to "buy" CGI...and I did that in X2, Gollum in LOTR-TT, and for the most part Harry Potter and the Star Wars movies, etc...but I can already tell that I won't buy this CGI Hulk. I can still enjoy the movie, but it will be like enjoying a cartoon...nothing wrong with cartoons, mind you...but don't try to pass them off as "real."

I have high hopes for this movie, mainly because Ang Lee is involved, but don't like what I see so far. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Yeah. I'll be real disappointed if this one doesn't pan out. Although The Hulk was never my favorite Marvel character, I did like him more than I did X-Men and I always thought he'd make a decent movie.

I think seeing Gollum is actually what encouraged me.......I was hoping they'd achieve that level of sophistication. But we'll just have to see. I hope I at least like it better than I did Daredevil. I guess this is why Hollywood seems intent on sticking to "earthbound" heroes like Spidey, Daredevil and Batman. They don't have to deal with the fantastic as much.

I think you're right about Ferrigno's acting. Didn't he have a speech impediment of some kind?

He was deaf, and his speech was not very good. I'm sure that's why he didn't speak on the show.

Excuse me for being dumb, but what does CGI stand for? I assume it has something to do with computer generated graphics.

Thanks. :)

You just about got it. Computer Generated Images.....

You're right about LF. He was deaf.......I had forgotten about that.

The Hulk TV show wasn't terrible by any means. It was good for what it was.........it just wasn't the true Hulk comic fans know and love.

No. They were actually supposed to build a new theater right beside the new Publix here on 278. That would've been cool, because I live like two minutes from there! And I work in the same area! But, Publix nixed that idea.......they didn't want "theater types" hanging around their parking lot!!

My wife and I DID discover the theater on the SOUTH end of Hilton Head, which I thought was much nicer than the north end cinema. That's where I saw Daredevil.

I made a road trip to Savannah to see the X-Men, but, because Savannah also is limited, theater-wise, the crowds were just unreal. We couldn't get in to the see the show we wanted, so we ended up seeing X2 the next day on HH. Oh well.....
