Mississippi State's Iyhia McMichael was named SEC Athlete of the Year in softball by a vote of the league head coaches. In addition, Georgia's Michelle Green and Lu Harris-Champer were named SEC Pitcher and Coach of the Year, respectively. Also, Alabama's Stephanie VanBrakle was named the SEC Freshman of the Year.

McMichael is a three-time All-SEC honoree and the lone unanimous choice on the team. The junior from Nacogdoches, Texas is a top 10 finalist for USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year. She currently leads the conference in slugging percentage (.859), on base percentage (.541), total bases (73) and walks (21). She is also among the league leaders in batting average (.424), runs scored (29), hits (39), runs batted in (27), home runs (9) and stolen bases (18). McMichael is also ranked nationally in batting average, RBI per game (1.07), and stolen bases per game (.58).

Congrats to McMichael, looks like ladies sports at State are doing pretty good as far as conference honors. :bluethumb:
