Anything is possible, but... I just can't see him taking that job. You'd have to understand how Luke is wired. Dude is a Columbus native and an Ohio State guy... I don't think Michigan could ever pay him enough money to coach there and be a rival to his alma mater. Its goes back to the old Woody Hayes quote about if his car ran out of gas in Michigan he'd push it over the state line in Ohio to fill up.

When UC and OSU played this year it absolutely ate him up. I commented to another poster on our board in a private message that I thought could be why he might not take the MSU job (last week).
I lived in Cleveland when I was a kid and I get the Michigan/OSU rivalry. I moved to Florida where I have seen the UF/UGA rivalry. But these schools are top notch jobs. Michigan is a great school with a lot of tradition. I get that it would be tough to think about, but it does not get much better than Michigan, unless it is actually Ohio State.

Ha! Michigan?

Fickell wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. He’s hated that school since he was a toddler. It a genetic predisposition around Columbus

If a Penn State were to open up I could see that being a job he’d be interested in in addition to Ohio State and ND.

Some people rather be where they are happy while pursue the dream of more money. When you talking in the millions to stay, Fickel, and family, rather be happy and know that his job is safe for now. Most coaching jobs are not for life.

Colorado coach Tucker to MSU.

Could see CU going after Harsin.

You get one year at Colorado, go 5-7 and MSU gives you a raise and more years. What a country.

Merit: (verb) deserve or be worthy of.

You do not approve? Tucker was chosen when others had the chance. "Deserve or be worthy of", what other coach does not have to prove that.

Tucker: "I am committed to Colorado, we have unfinished business."

Also Tucker: "You're gonna pay me what to come to Michigan State? Go Sparty!"

Numbers being thrown around for Fickell to Michigan State were 5 years north of 25 million. Given what they are paying Tucker seems those numbers were likely pretty accurate.

And really puts into perspective what kind of choice Fickell made considering he's earning half of that at Cincinnati.

RE: Michigan State Opening
Big picture:
This year's coaching carousel reinforces that AAC coaches, including HCs and coordinators, won't just jump at any "P5" job.
A Florida State, okay, but for other opportunities which may have downside, AAC coaches won't necessarily make that jump.
MSU offered more money, but Cincinnati pays Fickell enough that he made a holistic decision. I don't think that Navy's restructure of DC Norwood's contract outbid Miss. State, but was enough for him to make a holistic decision.
And then a "P5" HC left Colorado for Michigan State and a "P5" DC left Syracuse for Mississipi State.

G4 fans need to stop coming here and saying the AAC is just like them - that just isn't true.

RE: Michigan State Opening
Not impressed with the Michigan hire. Lateral overpriced move for a 5 and 7 coach with 1 year experience who pledged his allegiance to Colorado. Don't blame the coach for following the money but MSU looks bad with this move under pressure this late in the game. The school should have stayed with the current staff on an interim basis for one year while sorting through next year's possible hot coaches after striking out with most of their choices. Wish Tucker the best and hope things work out but don't see this working out in the long run. Good luck. 07-coffee3
