Which is exactly why these schools need to protect the little money they're currently getting. Every MAC athletic program is already heavily subsidized by the Universities. These same Universities have declining enrollments and it's getting more challenging for them to burden the cost to subsidize the athletics to the extent that they have been. If ESPN said sure we'll rip up your TV deal and give us a big bump in pay then sure add them. I just don't see that happening.
I had heard that ESPN can re-open the contract if a conference gains or loses two members.
Say, ESPN could add 1M per year to the contract for two new teams.
what i was going to add yesturday then got busy and forgot. I think a study should be done at least to see if it would be something of interest to MAC presidents
RE: NDSU. For those who haven't checked Google Maps recently. Fargo is on the border with Minnesota.
However, most Minnesotans don't live in the western part of the state. What I would want to know is where do students come from and where to alums live. N.D.? Minn.?
RE: JMU. JMU is about 125 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. (or 100 miles from the western NoVa suburbs). Easy drive except during rush hours leaving NoVa.

Most students come from ND, SD, IA and MN. A LOT from MN. Minneapolis has probably the highest contingent of NDSU alumni. Fargo to Minneapolis is only a 3 hr drive down I94.

That sounds great. There are no NFL teams in N.D., S.D., Iowa, etc.
There is one NFL team in Minnesota and only one FBS school.
NDSU's market isn't huge, but there isn't a lot of competition either.
As far as JMU, they are one of those DMV (D.C., Md, and Va.) schools which are overshadowed by pro sports.
So JMU is followed mostly by JMU students and alums, wherever they might be.
Harrisonburg is about 50K pop and has about 75K pop in the county (Harrisonburg is an independent city within Rockingham County).
Even UVa which has had success, esp. MBB, doesn't get the attention it would if if was say the University of Minnesota.

Correct, NDSU’s market isn’t huge (numbers wise) but area is fairly large and growing. All of ND, a few eastern Montana counties, northern SD and about the western third of Minnesota. Like I said it does seem to be growing each year.

Is NDSU interested in joining a FBS conference???

Yeah, that's not going to happen. If the B12 wanted to expand, they'd take some combination of Cincy, Houston, Memphis, or the Florida schools. Joining the AAC would be much more realistic.

The administration has stated that they want to be and belong in the second level of college football. Whatever that means. I’m sure some of it depends on if there are any conferences that show interest.

One thing which has changed over the last two decades is bowl games.
Any school which joins the MAC, even just for FB, becomes eligible for a MAC affiliated bowl game.
What is a bowl game worth to NDSU? Chance to play more FBS esp. P5 games?
Going back in my memory bank, Marshall just chomped at the bit to become D-IA FB and a chance to play W. Va., play in the Motor City Bowl, etc.

Playing for championships is all NDSU knows so taking that away essentially and replacing it with a bowl game would definitely be a change. Some bowls really aren’t that bad but in all honesty, there are too many and cheapens that post season play. I just hope that a true playoff is rolled out and we can quit this nonsense called: The College Football Playoff

Understand.
NDSU would trade the FCS championship playoffs for a slate of FBS games plus maybe MAC championship game and a bowl game.
Instead of the highlight game being say JMU in the championship game, it might be a game vs. Nebraska or Iowa or whomever in September.
P.S. I do like the FCS playoffs.

Marshall raised the bar for the MAC FB. I think NDSU would too.

Talk of raising the bar, I've been pushing on the EMU forum to have EMU host CMU at Ford Field in the 'Battle for the Mitten."
Our AD has a snippet on a podcast about EMU bringing EMU sports to the people where they are (e.g., Metro Detroit).
We are basking in our Quick Lane Bowl showing on the field and at the gate.

Steve, perhaps we can work on this together, but I am all for establishing a trophy for the CMU-EMU rivalry. The first thing to be done is probably research the history of the game going back to 1902 to see if the schools ever played for a trophy. This rivalry, BTW, is the oldest in the MAC. CMU began playing WMU in 1905.
FIRE UP CHIPS! :)

NDSU would destroy the MAC, I'm guessing that's why MAC never even offers.
NDSU gets you into Minneapolis/Minnesota market
