Delaware has at least 8 turnovers this half. They fix that and we would be losing.

That was an entertaining half. The Dukes got off to a good start as Rowe used 2 bigs in the starting lineup for the first time all year. Then the game was a bunch of mini runs by each side.
Need to close this one out and kick Delaware while they are down. The Hens have lost 5 of their last 7.

WTF was that play call we "drew up" down 2 with 30 seconds left?

Announcer says it all, Curt Dudley I believe, “Lewis one on one in the backcourt” . No offense run at all. Twice in the last minute results in wild misses. First one we were up 1, second one we were down 2.
We made a ton of free throws. Wooden looked good, we show flashes but no consistency. Same old same old.
The under looks good for the number of wins.

they played hard tonight, they've got to find what it takes to close these games out.

The good:
1. For a good part of the game, we had the quickest, most purposeful ball movement I have seen from the team in some time.
2. For maybe a 12-15 minute stretch in the second half, there was actual defensive intensity. If they could build on that and bring it for full games, they would be fine.
The bad:
1. The rest of the game we had no defensive awareness.
2. We cannot close out games. As soon as it got down to the final minutes, Lewis's decision making reverted again.

RE: MBB: Delaware at JMU, 1/9, 7pm
Well, I thought they'd lose by double digits, so I guess they exceeded my expectations. They played better, but so many head scratching moments.
Lewis for example drove to the basket and drew a foul on a spectacular play and made the 3 point play. The next sequence down the court he chucks up a three with a guy in his face early in the shot clock for no reason. I don't get it how a guy can be so damn good one moment and then make a really awful decision the next.
It's not just Lewis... they are all doing it to some degree.
I do blame the coaches for not doing enough to stop this from happening. Take a guy out of a game. Make him run after the game. SOMETHING. They aren't doing anything and why do I know that? Simple.. this happens every. single. game.

I might be saying something crazy, but I think this team is better without Lewis on the floor.

Team is .99 PPP with Lewis on floor and .9 PPP with him off. Defensive PPP is .97 on, 1.04 off.

Heaven knows I want JMU to win every game, but it’s just not going to happen with the current HC. Coaching is teaching, which requires superior communication skills. Being a nice guy and a skilled former player does not a coach make. Our players deserve better.

oh god, Bill. I'm sorry you're still in this state of mind.
Great home loss, think it perfectly shows off HCLR's inadequacies and should leave no doubt that a change must be made.

Two bad teams.
HC of Delware (Inglesby) at least has a record of progress...
Martin Ingelsby's Career Year-by-Year Head Coaching Record
Year School Record Conf. Record (Finish) Highlights
2016-17 Delaware 13-20 5-13 (9th) CAA Tournament Quarterfinals
2007-18 Delaware 14-19 6-12 (7th) CAA Tournament Quarterfinals
2018-19 Delaware 17-16 8-10 (5th) CAA Tournament Semifinals
Career 3 Seasons 44-55 (.444) 19-35 (.352)

RE: MBB: Delaware at JMU, 1/9, 7pm
Watched the whole thing in person last night (I was finally able to watch again)........It was 2 bad teams playing one another and JMU was worse, period. I kept sitting there watching and thinking, dang we are better than these guys, but then we continually got abused by a simple top of the key pick and roll play over and over and over again giving up easy shots at the basket. It was maddening to watch.....doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Why the heck do we have Wilson hedging on double teams 30 feet from the basket, but no one else does this when he is out of the game???
I have been patient and supportive but it is time for Rowe and this entire staff to move on at season's end. Hopefully we are already identifying the next coach so this will be a quick process in March. Rowe is a nice guy, really like him.....probably a good asst coach but not a head coach. He seems to concerned with being buddies and being the 'good guy' to players......that is the asst coaches job. The head coach is ALWAYS the bad guy. I don't know who the next coach will be but it needs to be someone from the Bob Huggins or Frank Martin mold that will openly challenge players on game day, demand accountability, and sit players for repeatedly messing up. Someone that will stress defense and a physical style of play and grit. Make JMU basketball and team that other teams dread playing b/c win or lose know it is going to be a war on the court.......right now it is more of a pillow fight team.

How did Delaware go like 10-0 to start? Did they play 10 division 2 teams? Might have to go look sometime.
Another 75+ point game for the Dukes. Another loss.

RE: MBB: Delaware at JMU, 1/9, 7pm
Remember in his second year when we lost a bunch of close games and thought...hey...we're thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to being a good team. Two years later and we're in that exact same spot. Except our defense looks worse. LR is not learning on the job how to be a good HC and the players aren't learning from him. He's had his shot. The experiment is over. Time to use all the money 'saved' on a bargain coach to hire someone experienced.
Massey has us winning 5 more games. I think that'd be lucky at this point. Thank god for Elon and UNCW... 6-12 is the most likely conference outcome. 8-10 would be an accomplishment for this team.
