Let’s go HERD

I get why the football series hasn’t continued with limited OOC opportunities, but I never understood why the basketball series - which had become one of the better basketball rivalries you could find for a few years - didn’t continue. Aside from our Postseason runs the last two years, those years of basketball against the Donnie Jones UCF teams were the most fun time I’ve had with Herd basketball. From Benedict Donald, Glowstick Madness, the heart attack after the elbow, to their review of the old Pullman Plaza Hotel televisions, to their ugly-as-sin basketball court, they were a fun hardcourt rival.

When this football matchup was first announced, I didn’t think we’d have the offense to keep up. However, I’ve seen two of their starters and their backup QB have decided to go ahead and end their collegiate careers prior to the game. If this is a snapshot of the UCF mentality, Marshall, which is always the more motivated and prepared bowl team, may be better positioned to compete.

One other noteworthy item... there have only been 3 G5 program has had three consecutive 10 win seasons... Marshall twice, Boise twice, and NIU once. UCF has a chance to join that club with a win. Marshall, which did it 1997-1999 and 2013-2015, is the final gatekeeper of this select club.

If ESPN can’t keep the alphabet soup of Florida schools straight, how can we?

UCF Basketball had not been to a NCAA since Dawkins got here. Jones Era was largely transitional and irrelevant. Marshall basketball series was irrelevant. We were all ready to let the highly manufactured Marshall rivalry die. UCF finally got to the even played field with South Florida and it was time to focus on the War on I-4.

Win or lose, this game doesn't matter. It's a midday monday kickoff for crying out loud. Our goal was a NY6 bowl, our true freshman QB struggled on the road and couldn't get it done. Some of the skill players will be sitting out this game. Knight fans have already chalked up this season as a disappointment, the gasp bowl wont change opinions.

What a selectively obscure stat that I am sure no one is tracking. But congrats on being the gatekeeper. When we left, at the minimum, we thought Marshall would be competitive in CUSA and keep F_U down. But now F_U has won multiple C-USA titles and become the dominant force of C-USA. Marshall has been in C-USA for 15 years now and only has 1 title to show for it. You should be embarrassed that F_U has walked in and won 2 already.

The alphabet soup of Florida schools has won the majority of CUSA East titles.

FL schools have won the CUSA East title 6 of the past 15 years.
UCF has 4 CUSA East titles in CUSA 2.0
FAU has 2 CUSA East titles in CUSA 3.0

Seems like the East has and always will run through the state of Florida.

And finally, you’re not the only ones disappointed with how the season ended and the bowl assignment. If you all are disappointed, feel free to come and take our coach. He’s 5-0 in last 5 trips to Florida and we won’t be mad this time if you try to take him.

That’s not a majority, chief. The property usage is... Only 6 of 15 have been won by Florida, so a majority of CUSA East titles have NOT been won by Florida schools.

6 of 25 if you count the other alphabet school, the USF Golden Knights.

Some breaking news today... in addition to their leading WR and RB, one of their DE’s and a DB are sitting out. Meanwhile, Marshall should be at full strength today. Hopefully this shows the mindset of the two teams and Marshall can continue its bowl domination of all schools in the AAC.
