Been through this coaching change biz in the bowls before. I pretty much always pick against teams losing their coach in my bowl pool. Gives you a great shot at finishing in the money.

Can't wait to see if the CUSA with Florida recruits win. I will not be surprised.

Refs doing their best to get App back in game, flagging UAB left and right.

Handed them a 1st down on a 4th and 17 on the dumbest rule in college football

Not all penalties are created equal

You guys had a lot of dinking and dunking and more minor penalties repeatedly called. A lot of personal foul stuff though. We got pretty screwed on the wide momentum swinging calls/ very obvious no calls , but it is what it is.

This was just an incredibly poorly officiated game overall. Will probably be the worst one of bowl season if we are lucky.

However, your guys also made some huge plays: the forced fumble for a score and the WR ripping what shouldve been a batted down incomplete pass for another TD. We really needed our defense to come up with some points and we just never got a turnover.

Overall you guys were the better team. Our running game was non existent. Though I think if things went a little different we just could've pulled off the win tonight.

Congrats on the W

Yes, that 4th and 17 penalty changed the game, IMO. Enormous call.

No more than the phantom touchdown UAB got 45 seconds into the game. Ball was out. No TD.

Too many bad calls all the way around to say either team got the advantage

...a phantom touchdown on a 2nd down near your redzone.

I'll disagree because I'm a UAB homer and you'll disagree because you're an App State homer. That's just kind of how it is and we'll never agree probably on this game. And that's all good

Here's my perspective:

You guys got most of the breaks when it came to the huge momentum swinging calls. There were multiple 4th down implosions where you failed and no points shouldve resulted (whether it be refs or whatever), but the football gods smiled down upon you. A lot of just super fluky things went in your favor but it happens.

You guys got points off of your QB fumbling the ball on 4th down and Evans picking it up and scoring. UAB fans will say it was fumbled and should've been called dead and App State fans will say it was a botched snap. You guys got points off of a 4th and 17 missed FG LEAPING PENALTY. You guys got points off of a 4th down desperation heave where all our defender had to do was bat the ball away. We had maybe the most obvious no-call face mask this year not get called. Should've made it UAB ball 1st down on your 16 yard line, etc.

This game was super close and you guys lucked out a bit, but that is the great game of FOOTBAW. Doesn't mean you guys don't have a great team because you obviously do. I mean your d-line obviously wrecked our weak offensive line in the second half. That's been our weakest unit all year. We need a new O-line coach.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years 04-cheers

1. You can fumble on 4th as long as you don't fumble it forward and into the end zone. Ball was fumbled backward and thus a okay.

2. It wasnt really "close". The last 55 minutes of the game had a score of 31-3. And yall had maybe 40 yards rushing. Once the D adjusted from the first two series y'all were shut down the whole night.

3. That fourth down leaped FG shouldn't have even happens because of the non-hold penalty that negated a run by App to y'all's 10 yard line. Three BS penalties in a row is why App had that 4th down play that you're talking about.

4. Happy Hanukkah and New Years to you too!

I haven't seen any rules showing you can advance a fumble on 4th down just because it was fumbled backwards. The only scenarios where you can is if the player who fumbles the ball advances it or if it is a botched snap/pitch, then anyone can advance it on the offense. Didn't look like a botched snap/pitch but its hard to tell from the replay so I'll give the refs the benefit of the doubt.

And a game decided by a bunch of 4th down fluke plays going the right way and the refs eating or not eating their whistle is a close game.

1st downs: 20 | 20
3rd down conversion: 3-14 | 3-14
Total yards: 403 | 338
Turnovers: 0 | 3

You have to be able to advance a fumble that goes backwards at all times and any downs. Otherwise you are saying backward pitches are illegal. What is a backward pitch other than a voluntary fumble?
