So....the coach's game plan for the game and all the practice before the game...really didn't have much to do with the outcome?

Maybe before the end of the season you will realize that we have an elite front court and can play multiple ways. All good teams have to be able to do both. What do you do when you can’t play physical, half court ball?

You might as well get used to it. Many teams will want to want to slow it down against us.

Of course! Everything goes into the outcome. We played the game Barnes wanted to play. That was my only point. If we saw the final score pregame without knowing who was who, we would not be super confident in the outcome.

Penny's clearly a much better in-game coach than Cal, who could never seem to make adjustments.

All of that and without Wiseman and Lester Penny still beat Barnes. Look like the better Coach tonight. Hard to argue with:-)

RE: From Seth Davis.....
Defense kept us in the game and almost shutting down Jones in the 2nd half was also the key. It was a defensive effort and we played slightly better than them. Good adjustment by Penny. However, our pitfalls have nothing to do with coaching, we just had too many unforced errors...if we had controlled that, we could have had won by double digits. We just need to do a better job handling the ball and minimize the un-forced errors (we had at least 5-6 TO due to lazy and or unwise passes). Coaches need to ask these guys to stay calm, and be confident, and play their natural game.
Bottom line: What I saw was a lot of errors due to jitters and nervousness-this is a young team and they will eventually grow out of that. All the coaches need to work on this mental strength for our kids and give them confidence to play their natural game. Hopefully, next practices to focus on teaching these kids dribble and pass better.

Who do you think coached them up?

Sorry man, don't agree with you. Some of these set plays were great ... unfortunately, we had Maurice run a bunch of nice pick-and-rolls only to not finish the end of the play ... when Wiseman gets back; it'll be him and Precious doing that play or maybe even DJ ... its gonna be nuts when we get full health mode.

Coaches are doing their part.

5 assist and 17 turnovers. There is a LOT more work to do. We were only 1.04-1 coming into the game. Now 0.95-1

Think about Wiseman on the receiving end of all those pick and rolls instead of Maurice, and it all starts to come together a little better.

The one thing we have going for us no matter what is that our depth at guard allows us to play very good on the ball defense. One thing I LOVED today, that I have been talking about all season, is that our guards didn't reach on defense. We didn't gamble and kept everything in front of us. Today was the first time I have seen us play like this and that is how we need to play every game. That is the only way to keep the other team out of the paint and to avoid foul trouble and giving up easy baskets.

For sure. I was thinking the same thing. With Wiseman, we would have crushed UT. Maurice is doing his best, but he was missing bunnies and getting stuffed at the rim. That sort of thing will be rare with Wiseman.

Penny’s teams get better as the game goes on... and as the season progresses. He’s a fine coach.

UT took a BUNCH of 3's.
Its kind of a reverse reference back to the #1 vs #2 Memphis vs Tennessee game.
In that game...Memphis took a BUNCH of 3 point shots...and ended up losing.
The rest of that season...we reigned in the 3 point shooting..and ended up going to the championship game against Kansas that year.

I did not expect that considering all of the youth on this team and playing without Wiseman and Quinones.

This is by far our best coaching staff in school history.

Oh, thank you. Thank you. That was the best laugh i've had in a while. It's been a while since i've read something as stupid as what you just wrote.

Man WTF!?
What Penny1 said wasn't that bad. He was pointing out that we had a lot of freshmen...playing in a really big game. Sometimes, it takes a team like that to gel.
We've seen some of these youngsters already show signs of growth in their games.

I agree specifically an example is Baugh was able to stay on the floor today which was obviously huge. Great game. This team is fun to watch

FWIW, in his post game interview, Baugh stated that they stuck to Penny’s game plan to play slow.

Wow. Unbelievably ridiculous.

You end your posts with “go Tigers” as if that will cushion the overwhelmingly ridiculous statements.

Gutty win...Baugh and DJ made the Big 3’s...Lomax clutch too down the stretch......worst first half we played in a while and were somehow up 1?

Biggest gripes...Lance shooting a 3 down the stretch, way too many turnovers, Harris forcing shots again, not going to DJ enough when it matters........great win though! We might be favored every game the rest of the year.

You obviously don't know anything about UT. Their game is won on the perimeter, their bigs aren't good at all. Our guards didn't gamble at all on defense, and stayed in front of their men the whole game.

4 of 5 of UT's top scorers are guards. Our top 2 scorers are Precious and DJ. Using what warped logic was it bad to force UT to go big?
