I have to use those numbers, because they are the official numbers.
Everyone knows the attendance count has been inaccurate. Imo, there was easily 5,000 more fans at every game this year. I felt the attendance was about the same for both cincy games. Cincy didn't bring their band for the first game, but they did for the 2nd game. Despite that, the crowd looked about the same in both games.
However, even if we add 10,000 more to the 33,000 attendance number for the AAC championship game at home, that puts us at 43,000 fans.
It's still short of the 45,176 attendance record set by ucf in last year's championship game.
Again, after a near perfect season and hosting the championship game at home, what happened to all those extra fans that came to the smu game but couldn't make it to this game?
Does it take espn game day to get those fans to come to the championship game?
Should the AAC schedule their championship game at a different time from the SEC championship game, so that more tiger fans will show up to our game?
I'm gonna tell you a fact right now. If we had played a well known brand name from a power conference like any team in the CFP, that Liberty Bowl would have been full.
We have a lot of "fans" who are more fans of power conference football than tiger football whether they want to admit it or not.
I think the comparison of our championship game crowd to UCF’s has to consider the following:
- UCF has a student enrollment nearly 3 times that of Memphis
- The Orlando metro area population is over double that of Memphis
- Orlando weather conditions on 12/1/18 (upper 70s) vs. Memphis on 12/7/19 (upper 40s)
As for the SMU game crowd, it is obvious that it drew 20,000 or so casual fans who are not part of the usual base. Should we really count those as part of the “we” you refer to in the last paragraph? Or, just admit that our regular fan base tops out around 40K and attendance can surge under the right conditions (good season, marquee opponent, heavy promotion, decent weather) when those casual fans are able/willing to show up? It does little good to criticize a segment of fans for sporadic attendance when the very act of attending sporadically demonstrates they aren’t hardcore fans. They aren’t going to be shamed into attending more.
To nitpick (I can't deny it), Orlando's metro is 2.56 million, Memphis metro is 1.34 million. 2*1.34=2.68.
Yes, he is a liar who totally misrepresented the difference and obviously doesn't care about accuracy and fact checking. Everyone knows that Orlando's population is 1.920447761 times that of Memphis.
We can't have posters lying like this. Also, not to nit pick, but Memphis has a metro population of 1,348,260, so you should have rounded up to 1.35 million. So you are also lying.
The 1st liar doesn't stand a chance. That's why I always wait a bit. I prefer to be the 2nd or 3rd liar in the mix.
Maybe we could ask Snopes. They always tell the truth

New poster but I was watching from the sidelines for a few years.

To nitpick (I can't deny it), I didn't call or suggest anyone was a liar or lying. Inaccuracy alone is not lying, and, unlike you, apparently, I assume inaccuracy was just misinformation. I didn't infer or imply intent behind it. You evidently derived intent behind his inaccuracy. Just to clear the record, and to nitpick, I did not.

Ah, you’re right. Wasn’t doing the math very good in my head.
No worries. Like I mentioned, I was nitpicking.
