Oh my goodness! He threw up 6 bombs, made four and had two air balls that he attempted before his feet were set. He still has not the iron! I was cautious about his preseason buzz due to the hyperbole accorded to Rafus who proved to be an absolute dud! I watched him in warmups at halftime, what a stroke, splash after splash. Alum93 and I just looked at each other with our mouths open! This guy is the real deal apparently.

The biggest play tonight was Ty Groce's block at the basket, it ignited the run that won the game. This is HIS team, its success will revolve around him.

I'm thinking Spottsville will assume the role of Terry Harris and Damari Parris of the prior two years. Start almost every game at the beginning of the season, them get lost at the end of the bench when the season progresses.

Great post. Agree with everything. Groce’s block at the end was huge. This was the best game of his career.

Barnes needs to have Spottsville’s minutes. I would also move Morgan to the 2 in crunch time, with a Barnes/Morgan/Groce/Binelli/Toure lineup. Give Barnes some spacing, and he will get to the basket at will.

Yes, I am surprised the final score was so close at 85 to 79. Looking at the box score EMU shot 61.4% overall and 56.3% from the three. Plus took 14 more free throws than Valpo and shot them reasonably well at 73.3%. But I will take the win against a quality mid major.

Good Job, EMU!!

Another interesting stat, Binelli had 12 points in only 9 minutes.

Sam I did not want to get too far in the weeds, thus I did not proffer what you just did, it is in my opinion correct. Morgan and Barnes are "big boy" players that offer more than just excelling against Goshen and UM Dearborn.

I hate to disagree with you Sam, but Spottsville played 31 minutes tonight. I know he does not score much, but there is something (probably defense) that Murpjy really likes in Spottsville. In comparison, Barnes did get 21 minutes and I am surprised to say that Montero only got 15 minutes.

Barnes is a good defender as well. Spottsville just doesn’t do enough offensively for me, but we got the job done with him out there today. I agree with Jerry in that I think he’ll lose some minutes over the course of time if we start losing (a la Harris and Parris).

Lucky? We made shots and got stops when we needed to, and we made our free throws. Didn’t seem like much luck was involved. That was a good basketball game.

Blew a nice half time lead allowed wide open 3 Point shoots at the end to make it interesting Our wins have been against low D1 teams Glad we won but it have easily gone the other way

North Texas is not a “low D1” team. If playing well is lucky, then sure, we were lucky.

We weren’t going to cruise to a win over this team. I think they’ll be one of the better teams in the Valley. Last year we would’ve folded if we blew that lead and went down 6 in crunch time.

Jerry and Sam, beautifully written masterpieces describing everything I thought! Groce and Morgan played there best game in an EMU uniform! Binelli can simply shoot it! With that stroke, and size, I'm amazed Murphy got him to come to EMU! Spottsville is a true PG, who doesn't look to score! Barnes is a slasher, and a scorer, James leg didn't look good at all! Folks, lets give Murphy some credit for once! He brought in literally a new team, and it appears they'll be better then last year!!!!!

It looked like James was holding his shin. I thought he just got hit really hard, but maybe the cameras had a better angle of it. Hoping it’s not too serious.

I thought it was an ankle, or shin!!!!!!! Hopefully, he'll be able to play at UDM! Who thought E Mich would be 7-1 after 8 games? Not me........

Maybe. I like this team and was one of the few prevseason that said this team might be better than. folks thought. The season is still young. Entertaing game.

Might be the knee. I really like James Defense and passing skills Plays more mature than a true frosh. Hopefully he will be back soon.

I Always thought Spottsville was signed as a big physical point guard with rebounding ball handling and rebounding skills any scoring would be an unexpected bonus

Thinking ahead to UDM. Big thing is that Davis isn't shooting lights out this year.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...oine-davis

Only shooting 25% behind the arc. That won't hack it. That means put up 4 treys and make 1 worth 3 points. Someone like Toure puts up 3 2-points and makes 2 for a total of 4 points.
