RE: What Needs to Happen...
Thank you Wikipedia for keeping things simple.
3 of the following teams can win to clinch the 78 total slots.
Boston College, Michigan State, Troy, ULM, Colorado, Oregon State, UNC, Liberty
Troy is the last game of the day and are getting crushed.

The remaining 5-6 teams and their matchups:
BC @ Pitt (7-4)
Maryland (3-8) @ Michigan State
App. State (10-1) @ Troy
UNC @ N.C. State (4-7)
ULM @ Louisiana (9-2)
Colorado @ Utah (10-1)
Oregon State @ Oregon (9-2)
New Mexico State (2-9) @ Liberty [6-5 but needs 7 wins due to 2 FCS Ws]
I’m guessing barring big upsets, Michigan State, UNC and Liberty win their games and maybe BC.

Does strength of schedule officially count? Because 2 FCS games is the exact opposite of us.

Does the committee shun Liberty for playing NMSU (x2) and two FCS teams?

How the hell do you play the same team twice? LOL! And a 2-9 team at that, one they barely squeaked by and then 2 FCS games. That being said, I don’t see them getting picked over us. We would each have 5 FBS wins, but we’ve had a stronger schedule.

Throw in UMASS to that schedule

RE: What Needs to Happen...
I am tired of the 3 buy-game whining. We got eligible when the main complaint on here was that because of those 3 losses we weren't going to be able to. Not only that, but above someone mentioned we were a mere 16 points away from being undefeated in the MAC. Bottom line is, we got bowl eligible and made a sh!t ton of money in the process. What would one more win have done for us?

Oh I don’t know, maybe guarantee us a bowl instead of hoping and praying everyone else loses and then having one fall to us. A W or 2 early in the season might have allowed us to gain confidence and be able to work on things which would’ve allowed us to close the gap in the MAC games. And with one more W we’d actually have a winning season instead of a non-losing season.

REMEMBER ... selection has little to do with strength of schedule and a whole lot to do with 'politics.' --- Regional teams, teams that (wink-wink) say they will lock in so much $$$ --- teams with a 'profile.' will all get the nod when the records are the same.
Repeat SOS has very little to do with being picked for a bowl game.

And a loss to a bad Rutgers team.

How do you know that a few games against bigger, stronger opponents wasn't the reason we closed the gap in MAC play this season?

Maybe Liberty should've played us instead of UMASS and us blowing a weekend in Auburn or Wisconsin. Or Army. We've had some luck against them.
But what the hey, we're rich.

Sorry danny, I'd say it separated us. We had an injury in Ohio that stemmed from losing at Wisconsin 2 weeks prior. This team was given a pile of crap for a schedule this season and they made something out of it.

Because when you’re playing in a game you’re severely overmatched in you can’t work on anything. It’s 3 and out on offense, punt coverage, getting blown off the line on D and practicing kick returns all game. Getting blown out 133-23 in those 3 games and then only losing by a combined 16 points in 3 MAC games is frustrating. It also means you never get a chance to get in a flow offensively and use the playbook. If playing OOC games that you have zero chance in works, that “logic” suggests our basketball team should start every season with the same, hitting the road to Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas etc...as it would make us much better in the MAC.

RE: What Needs to Happen...
I don't want to spend all night lamenting what happened in 3 games. We did have the best season in 7 years, went undefeated at home, killed Akron in their preppy stadium and played strong against most of the other conference opponents.
I was truly entertained watching this team. Even sat through a crappy weather game. I don't think I did that since I was required to in band.

This I agree with. I would really like to know what the coaching staff would say about this.

RE: What Needs to Happen...
We get in due to sheer number (or lack) of qualified teams. There are 78 slots and currently 75 eligible teams. 7 more teams could gain eligibility Saturday. Of those, 3 are double digit underdogs, and BC is an 8.5-point dog at Pitt, making it very possible there are exactly 78 bowl eligible teams.
Now think about this. In 2020, there are 3 MORE bowl games.

Yep and the MAC will now have 6 guaranteed games. I believe it's in Arizona!
