Good lord, these inbound passes are to NIU as FG kicking is to the Bears

Huskies survive, one of those wins that feels like a loss.

WIU is not a good team but they have a few decent players. Huskies go for first 5-game in-season win streak since 2016 this Saturday

That did not feel liKe a loss! WIU was lucky to stay that close. A couple of times Huskies were one stop away from running away and WIU made a big three. Easily the better team won.

I’ll take the W, winning isn’t always pretty. Looking to be 6-2 heading into the st Mary’s game.

RE: NIU vs WIU game thread
Those announcers were some of the worse I've ever heard. Never talked about the game. Got everyone's names wrong. Terrible.

Otherwise, it wasn't pretty but NIU survived it. It felt like NIU had it in hand but they couldn't shake WIU. The 'necks made a number of contested 3 point shots to keep the game interesting and they clearly don't miss free throws.

NIU probably took them a little lightly and hopefully they learn from that.

I have no idea how Montgomery got a technical (the announces didn't even realize it until they were shooting free throws so they were no help).

Anyway, 4 in a row to make it 4-2. I'm good with that and a real good chance to make it 5 in a row against SIU-E.

RE: NIU vs WIU game thread
They scored 86 points and had 17 assists to only 7 turnovers.

We're good enough to be complaining about leading the last 24 minutes and "only" winning by 5 on the road? Come on now. WIU shot 52% from 3 and 92% from the line and NIU was still able to win.

There's very little about that effort that wasn't encouraging.

Also those announcers were 100% students, so cut them some slack. Very confusing how they both somehow turned Beane into Burn, but whatever lol

Monty didn’t get a tech. Tech was issued for calling a time out on the inbounds when not having any.

FYI, Chad Pecka had the scout tonight for WIU. Pecka was the DOBO at NIU the last few seasons, so he was more prepared at this stage of the season than most teams.

No I understand. I overstated the "it feels like a loss" thing. It just seemed to me a little disorienting. NIU in the first part of the season has started to build a defensive identity and that broke down in pretty dramatic fashion last night. Just having that early identity shift made me feel uneasy, and a little less optimistic there is anything of substance to build on going forward. But yes, a W is a W!

Oh I get that they were students. But I've listened to a ton of high school basketball and football games on the radio and have had a much clearer idea of what was going on than those two guys last night. Who knows, maybe that WAS their "tv" broadcast. I'm pretty sure it was just the radio fed in to the video feed. But if I were listening and not watching the game, I'd have never had any clue what the score was or what was actually happening. They never said the score and would just recognize scores as a side note while they were talking.

7 is correct. These are students. No way was this WIU's radio feed. I agree with you about score. Hardly ever said it. They did say the time remaining much more and we could see that below the shot clock. We were laughing at how bad they were but at the end of the day they are students without much supervision. NIU used to run the radio feed thru when they used all access. WIU does not. Just be grateful that NIU delivers a good broadcast and we do not have to listen to students. Play by play is hard for someone with no experience.

I was very thankful for the feed and, unlike the ESPN streams, I was able to watch the WIU game in Mexico.

Headline on official WIU website r.e. NIU vs. WIU game:
"Cardinal Direction Schools Go Down to the Wire"

We have enough trouble with the small-time thinking of this whole "directional" thing, and then Western athletics does this?! Thanks for nothing.

(Just a pet peeve and some nit-picking).

The perfect set up for the bi-annual name-change thread....
