To no one's surprise, Rozner was named CUSA offensive player of the week.

Football: Rice 44, UTEP 24
Basketball: Rice 100, Omaha 87
How about the last time the Owls' football and basketball teams won on the same day ON THE ROAD?
(Looking back through 2006, I've found no other Rice football+basketball road wins on the same day.)

Someone on Facebook said 1959 but I don't know if they were being serious.

I looked it up - they weren't serious. Basketball back then didn't start until December so you'd pretty much have to have a bowl road win (football was over before December back then too) and a basketball road win. It certainly wasn't in 1959, when the men's basketball team was only 4-20 (even though we did have a road win at Oklahoma City on Dec. 15, 1959).

Alright I do see November 29, 1980 as sort of that feat happening. We beat Houston 35-7 in football at the Astrodome, and then in a neutral game on the road at Clemson, we beat Cornell in men's basketball under Tommy Suitts. Sorry but that's good enough for me - I'm not checking any further.

I think that's right. There have been a few more early season Rice basketball wins on the road through the years on Saturdays in November, but the football team has mostly been playing at home on the same day.

Nov. 29, 1980, it is ... nearly 39 years ago!
After FBO's post, I looked at the intervening years, and found no same-day road wins. In fact, between 2003 and 1981, the football team won away games in November or later 13 times ... but on only two of those days did the men's basketball team even have any away games ... and lost both of them: Nov. 26, 1994 @Nevada, 68-71; and Nov. 29, 1986 vs. Stanford @Richmond, 52-77.

That sounds impressive, but were Clemson and Houston coming off 2nd place finishes in their conferences (as MTSU and UCSB are this year)?

1979 Houston was 11-1 overall. My resource says SWC co-champions with Arkansas, but UH had the head-to-head. Both teams went to bowls (Houston over Nebraska in the Cotton; Arkansas lost to Alabama in the Sugar) and ended ranked (UH 5, Ark. 12). 1980 pre-season expectations were high for UH, but they lost their ranking after losing the first two weeks of the season and finished 7-5 with a Garden State Bowl win over Navy.
1979-80 Cornell was 5-19. We played them in a neutral site game that happened to be at Clemson the next year. They weren't much better in 1980-81, finishing 7-19.
