Is that possible?

I think Hammock and staff need to emphasize playing for positions next year to get the guys fired up.

RE: TOLEDO / NIU
Hopefully, our guys will be fired up to show the national audience they’re a good football team. I’m sure all their friends will be tuned in and they want to play well. Hopefully, the staff put in extra work to make a good showing for potential recruits tuning in. Hope they impress us...

In the first half alone. NIU concedes at the half.

Huskies play better knowing this is TOLEDO, but we fall short. I think we'll see better play from Huskies. Weird year.

He already did that this year. Basically he told the kids there are three sides to every coin and everyone is on the edge. Everyone on that roster was fighting for a spot and no one was guaranteed to start just because they did last year.

With how things are going this year, I can only imagine that may have backfired on morale. To go from conference champs, to being told the culture has to change, to where we are now.

Everyone needs a challenge. The defense was strong at the beginning of the year. The injuries and lack of depth took its toll on the defense. The offensive line isn't opening holes or pass blocking very well. So it has been very inept. The coaching has been making some mistakes, especially in early games. I just think that not being good makes it look like you're not trying. There are a lot less times where the players can look excited to play.

Adversity. How you handle the down times are just as important as how you handle success.

Yup. Not every year is great, and everyone has a losing season occasionally. It's important not to fall too much and rebuild quickly. We don't want to repeat the 90's.

UCF went 0-12 two seasons after Bortles left, but they've rebounded in a big way.

I think Hammock and crew had some growing pains, but the future is bright.

If NIU beats Toledo, then this season has not been a failure.
