"The policy prohibits teams from winning games by more than 42 points."

Instead of THAT stupid policy, they should just end the game when one team goes up 42 or more points, thus eliminating the need for investigations. It would still be a stupid policy, but it would be a stupid policy with less gray area.

Lol

What a steaming pile of 01-rivals

So, as the only remaining undefeated team in this Conference and having it's last game next week, who they gonna suspend when his team takes this decision out on the next opponent 84-3?

Opposing Coach had no issue, that should be the test right there, not what some broad from the HS counselors office or psychology dept or whoever makes up this "panel" that did this.

Don't wanna get that asss kicked by 42+?

Don't suck. That should be the take-away here for the other team, Coaches and players alike.

Instead, sadly it's not.

I dont think you will have to worry about that SMU will probably match Memphis point by point...

turnovers will decide this game.

Watched SMU first game vs Ark St and I picked them to win the AAC. But that was based on improving the defense vs the long ball. SMU still hasnt fixed it. Should be a fun game to watch and I will set the DVR for it

Yeah... That's ridiculous.. Some high school football teams need to win by eye popping margins in order to be considered for national rankings. What better way to do that then putting up 61 on an undefeated opponent?

Going easy on and outmanned opponent is the ultimate form of sporting disrespect.

So, you're up 37 with 3 minutes to go. The opponent is on their own 5. They throw a quick out and your DB steps in front of it and gets the interception. Does the coach have run on the field and tackle him before he scores? Do you have to let them score on the next possession to get the MOV back down under 42?

This is why we have a generation that can't handle adversity.

It's the state of NY, what do you expect. I agree with another poster simply end the game and even cap the score so it ends with a 42 point victory. This rule would be much like little league baseball that has a 10 run mercy rule, so treat high schoolers like 12 year olds. You should never tell kids to stop playing hard. I'm guessing the undefeated team came on the field with a touch of arrogance talking smack so the opposing coach gave them a dose of humility.

RE: Coach suspended for running up the score on an undefeated team
The losing coach said in the article that he didn’t complain and that the winning team did *Not* in his view run-up the score.

Strongly suspect there is a history here between the winning coach and the people on the Committee.

Just more generally: people need to understand that not every person (and not every team) is equally good. Sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug. 15-16-17 yrs. old is plenty old enough to learn that lesson. At the same time: yeah, teaching sportsmanship is part of it, too. Pouring on the pain just because you can is a way to turn friends (or potential friends) into enemies, fast. Kids should be taught that lesson, as well.

Agree. I think what Houston did to post death penalty SMU was much more respectful than what Notre Dame did. Houston's run n shoot Cougars beat them 95-21. Notre Dame beat them 59-6 and that included taking a knee at the 1 yard line on a TD run.
