To me it would.
Love a second chance at a perfect season including a win at WVU. A win at WVU would be style points. When you are in FBS style points count for numerous reasons.
Also we would likely by splitting the votes with NDSU.
Would love even more to be in the FBS. That WVU game is proof that we belong. We weren't even firing on all cylinders and we could've, probably should've won that game. A little less mistakes and a little less conservative approach, and we win that game EASY.
And after watching SMU vs Memphis and Cincy vs ECU, there is NO doubt in my mind that we would be able to immediately compete for an AAC championship. With the extra 20+ schollies, we are at the top tier of the class in the AAC.
I know there's all these politics and various factors involved in an AAC invite....But, it's there for the taking. Hopefully, this is the perfect storm the administration has been waiting/preparing for.
The AAC has a 2 year waiver before they have to add a team.If we win the National Championship, our profile won't be higher. They could announce the add-on, sometime in 2020...Then we get a 2 year transition and be ready to go in 2022.
Maybe it's wishful thinking because I know there's probably many more reasons why this won't/can't happen than that it will (and most of it is probably a financial decision)....But I'll just keep hoping.
I don't care about competing for an FBS national championship....The competition week in and week out as an FBS team, would be exciting enough....The big prize would be the UCF model of competing for a NYD 6 every year, and getting the bragging rights of knocking off a P5 team every year in that bowl
