I'm sure you can just wander into any XCONN home football game and have your choice of seats.
ECU has had at least 18K empty seats in their last few home games. Pretty sure you can just wander in there and have your choice of seats, too.
I don't understand why the people on this board are such As%$ol@!. They got what they wanted with us out of here. Now they can dream big about being a "Power 6" conference. There's just 3 things happening that will make that never so. 1. Tradition 2. Far too many directional colleges 3. The five conferences that will never let that happen and their enabler ESPN.
You are correct that the five power conferences will never let that happen. Why would they want to share that money? Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama are going to want to share the wealth with ECU, Tulsa, and Tulane? Never.
Speaking of ESPN, I find the TV situation interesting, too. There has been a lot more positive talk about the AAC by ESPN and the talking heads seem to be slamming the AAC less. Is it that they now respect the AAC? Is it about ESPN pondering a day when the AAC will be elevated to a power conference by giving them a fat TV deal and actual power conference bowl access and not just a "P6" campaign? Definitely not. It is about ESPN talking the league up so that they can lure subscribers in for when they put the league behind the ESPN+ pay wall beginning next year.
ESPN needs the AAC to be good enough to lure those subscribers. but there is no way that you will ever see an AAC channel on linear ESPN. That would cost ESPN too much money that they aren't willing to spend. However, behind a paywall on ESPN+, individual fans can now foot most of the bill to see their favorite teams.
I am also convinced that College Gameday at Memphis is nothing more than a stunt to lure subscribers to ESPN+ by showing them that the AAC has some good teams. It does benefit the conference to have it happen on linear TV regardless of the motivation, however. And it ESPN does an AAC College Gameday regularly on linear ESPN to lure in ESPN+ subscribers, that isn't bad for the conference either.
Just don't get fooled into thinking that ESPN is your friend now. They are using AAC schools as a lure for their other content like they always have. They just don't value it enough to pay it power money or give it power status (and they never will).
