04-cheers Can't wait for that.

It just a matter of time before it expands to 8, and then 16 but it we require something like a undefeated Clemson to do it.

A 16 team field would be awesome!!!!!
Soooo cool. Take a look if you seeded out any of the top 25 polls to get a feel.

8 yes. 16 no, not without either getting rid of the bowl system as we know it today, or pushing the NC game into late Jan/early Feb.
This yr semis (Fiesta & Chick-fil-A 12/28 and 12/30, and NC Mon, 1/13).
Change that to now 8 major bowls Round of 16 between 12/28-12/30.
Qtrfinals weekend of 1/11-1/12.
Semis 1/18-1/19.
NC game between Sat 1/25 & Mon, 1/27, or more likely between Sat 2/1 & Mon 2/3. Course the participants would go from 15 games now (12 game regular season + league champ game + 2 rounds) to 17 games (add 2 more rounds).

A Round of 8 would = P5 champ winners + 3 At large.
Round of 16 would most like mean 15 P5 and maybe 1 G5. Would render P5 champ games mostly meaningless. Don’t see the P5s giving the G5s a seat at the table with G5 AQs..

Is that factual, "no 16"?

For most of my life I was told there would never be a playoff due to the bowl structure. If we go to 8, 16 will be next. I'll bet you right now $1,000. Within the next 100 years it will expand to 16. Bet?

04-cheers
I didn’t word like I was thinking. I meant no, not for a long time. I wouldn’t take that bet because it will probably go to 16 eventually.. Think we’ll go quicker from 4 to 8 than 8 to 16 due the logistics, P5 not wanting to give the G5 seats at the table (easier to do with 8 than 16), and the bowls fighting tooth and nail. And this current 4 year deal, reached in 2012, runs 2014-2025.

16 would have to be done like described above, or after conference championships the 1st week of Dec, Round of 16 2nd week Dec, Qtr finals 3rd week Dec, semis as currently, NC as currently. But they’re not going to have 8 major bowls the 2nd weekend Dec, and they’re not going to have 12 of the top 16 teams (8 1st round losers and 4 Qtr final losers) not in a bowl game. Would kill the bowls. And they’re not going to get rid of conference championship games (which with an 8 team field, in a sense would be like a round of 16).

The current playoff deal, reached in 2012, runs 2014-2025. I could see 8 happening in 2026.

You kinda missed the joke mixed in there. You really should have no issue taking the bet.
