If you have to stop for hours to charge a battery you are less likely to drive and more likely to take a train, bus, or plane which will allow the government to keep better tabs on you and limit you if you are not deemed worthy of travel. China does this already

This man gets it.

Gas or electric, if you have a vehicle with OnStar it can be remotely shut down already.

Electric cars are great for certain people and areas. If you drive less than 80 miles daily and can plan longer trips around stopping at charging stations for bathroom/food breaks it can be done. Oil is a finite resource so anything that eases of the sucking of that tit means it will last longer for the people that have to have oil fueled things.

No way in hell the government should be involved in the transition let alone forcing people to change.

Dang Bob, aren't you a Liberal? That's twice you've sided with the mean ol' Republicans. You're gonna lose your Liberal card, man.

But, there's still time to "Walk Away".

No where close to liberal. Maybe on some social issues, but I am certainly a fiscal conservative. Closest label you could put on me is a south park republican

80 miles before charging???
I wouldn't be able to get to Raleigh

Teslas can get around 300 miles on a charge, but those are the high dollar EVs. The cheaper they get(Chevy Bolt 200mi) the worse they are. And that's from the factory. As the batteries degrade I'm sure the mileage will get worse. The tech industry loves their planned obsolescence and I'm sure these EVs will not be any different.

I wouldn't try to escape the California wildfires in one. Who knows where you could get recharged?

not only do they add unnecessary weight to the vehicle and traveled substrate, it's a given degradation begins immediately and replacement costs are 'sky fk'n high'....

it's the ol' engineered adage 'design to fail'....

the masses are oblivious...

IF they ever get to the point where an electric vehicle can reliably travel 400 plus miles on a single charge with batteries that can be fully recharged in the time it takes to sit down to a meal at a road side diner/charging station AND have those batteries last for 8-10 years with little degradation AND can still deliver power enough to pass another vehicle rapidly at speeds over 75mph then I'm all in - as long as they can properly synthesize the sound of a 350 engine with a hot cam with headers and performance dual exhaust...

you just defined another negative residual impact...the lack of noise will kill more pedestrians than the Juarez cartels...

Do progressives think electric cars run on moonbeams and unicorn farts. If all cars had to plug in to the electric grid to charge it would drastically increase the demand on electricity which.... is largely produced by fossil fuels like natural gas, oil, and GASP coal, most of the remaining comes from Nuclear.

I disagree, they know exaclty what they are doing.

Endgame is to make you and your family dependent on them.

They have already done it to the elderly (Medicare, Social Security) and with poorer communities (Foodstamps). When you are dependent on the government there is incentive to get better.

For example, i can't take this promotion because then i would make too much to qualify for Medicaid, my healthcare subsidy, food stamps, etc.

Another example, Imagine if a person who is now solely dependent on social security had the 30+ years worth of payroll deductions directed into a low risk IRA.

Dependency keeps politicians getting elected. Dont vote for him or he will take away everything and then you will really be screwed.

I sincerely hope someone is capturing all these soundbites for extensive use in political commercials next year. It's not fear mongering when the other side states it explicitly.
