The general feeling about Tubbs is that a change was definately in order. Our past teams under Dement often showed flashes at times, but had a knack for fading down the home stretch for various reasons. Tubbs was an assistant at SMU for 8 years before joining Sampson at OU for 2 seasons, so he has seen a quality team and knows firsthand how tough it is to get there (Great 8 - OU '02). The promise for Tubbs will be his recruiting ties to the D/FW area. He had a great record while at Kimball High School in South Dallas and won the 5A state championship in 1990 with Jason Sasser as his stud, former Texas Tech great and part time NBA'er.

Tubbs brings an up tempo style and team approach to the game that we've lacked over the years. Our faults under Dement consisted of pourous defense and a 1 vs. 5 offensive structure that often led to turnovers & bad shots. Our PG is our best player, a Dallas Lincoln HS standout & then teammate of Chris Bosh. Together, they were the cornerstones of the Dallas Lincoln #1 national high school champion after a undefeated season. He just needs a consistent supporting cast to help us get to the next level. We have plenty of role players but need more guys to step up their games if were to make a run at conference championships.

Apparently, 18 of the 21 Dallas Independant School District signed a letter delivered to the President & AD of SMU supporting the hiring of Tubbs. Well, SMU listened and hopefully this will open the door to recruiting a better class of student athlete for our program.

Pony fans are cautiously optomistic about the hire, as you all know our success in football and basketball has been lackluster for quite some time. We've been duped before.

Looking forward to CUSA. I think our football program and hoops programs should improve over last years performances.
