Do you think we are going to miss two XPs or kick four FGs?

"Rice. Stinks.

That’s it.

This line feels like the game is at Rice, but it’s not. I double-checked 100 times.

UAB may have lost at Western Kentucky last week, but they still rank 76th overall in FEI. Rice ranks 122nd. UAB rolls this weekend.

Pick: UAB -9.5"

I considered both of the first two scenarios, but had not thought of the third.

Rice 3 3 6 7 -19
UAB 0 0 0 0 -0

3rd qtr 2pt conversion unsuccessful.

Makes sense, but....

You really think Bloom would go for two? In the third quarter?

Sure. Up 12-0 very late in the third, one point is not really useful, so you go for two to try for 14-0.
Earlier than that, no.

I’m channeling 2006 and hoping a 21-20 last-minute Rice win is the start of a season-ending string of C-USA victories.

In related news, TFW also picked the Owls to win today!

Rice 31, UAB 10.

Seems like the same story to me today. If we can get things going offensively, we can win. Here’s hoping that we do.

It was funny but somebody on the conference board lamented that “nobody in CUSA has a running game and nobody plays defense”.

I didn’t argue... but we have both and it is going to start paying off for us.

A 45-14 win for the 8-4 Owls. But that 37-20 loss at 4-7 SMU in the last game of the season still bothers me.

IIRC there was no way Rice was going to get into a bowl even with a win in that game, and the players/coaches knew that going in.

The loss that bothered me most was @ LA Tech. Down huge at halftime, somehow pull off the miracle comeback (by a triple option offense, no less), but get the game-winning FG blocked in regulation and then miss one in OT to end the game. A win there would have put Rice at 7-1. They still likely wouldn't have won at Fresno State the next week, but 10-2 was on the table.

Minor correction in that we didn’t miss a FG in OT, a holding call and two sacks left us out of FG range.

As for today, I think we get win number one.

They’re in the third quarter, but UTEP and UTSA (mostly UTSA) have combined for 19 points in exactly that manner: 2 FG, 2 TD, 1XP, and one failed 2pt try

Darn my recollections! I knew Rice had missed two FGs that game, but the other miss must have been earlier on.

That's still the top "might have been" game among ones I have attended.
