That depends whether or not you consider UCF's undefeated football season was a National Championship or not. I would say it's easier to go 14-0 in football than to win the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The odds a any G5 school making the CFP are infinitesimal because the committee is designed to keep them out.

To some extent, insofar as there are some hard core fans of one sport or the other, and a majority of people who are fans of both sports, it's not surprising that there isn't a clear majority for one sport or the other.
