“I am down to six miles of battery on the Tesla so I may lose it here in a sec,” the cop said on the radio, according to the report.

Absolute lunacy all the way around. The police chief should be fired for not having a written policy in effect for ensuring the vehicle is fully charged at the start of the shift and never allowed to go below a specific level during the shift except in extreme circumstances. At both the FD and PD we were required to ensure that all of our battery operated equipment was fully charged, and that all fuel powered equipment was no lower than 3/4 of a tank of fuel.

It takes 75 minutes to get a full charge, but you can even get up to 50% at 20 minutes (not sure why it works out that way but that's the way it is).

They need to put a charging station in every donut shop in town.
