How will the extended 3 point line affect NCAA basketball (pro or con)?
In your view, what impact will the outward extension of the 3 point line have on NCAA basketball in the coming season?
For example, will there be a similar or a smaller number of 3 point shots, overall, and by specific teams?
Will FG3% decrease substantially, only slightly, or insignificantly?
Also of interest:
How will the rule change change the style of play in the AAC and overall?

I think any field goal made from the 50 yard line should be 4 points.

The NCAA basketball season will be starting in a few weeks, on November 5th.
The impact of the extended 3 point line is a current topic of interest to most NCAA basketball fans and will be of increasing interest as the season approaches.

A more significant change would be raising the basket to 11 feet, college and pros. Baskets were set at 10 feet when a tall player was 6'4". Now, some players are so tall that when they finish the dunk and leave the rim, they barely travel any distance to reach the ground.
In baseball the pitchers mound has move back from early days of 45 feet to 60 feet 6 inches. The height of the mound has been raised an lowered, depending on whether scoring was low or not.
In football, goalpost used to be in the field of play at the goal line but was moved to the end-zone end-line.
The goal size has changed in the NHL as has the crease size.
Why has basketball not changed the obvious need of increasing the height of the basket?
I realize the answer of the that dunk is "so exciting", but not all dunks are equal.

Eleven foot baskets would be in the short run a nightmare. Would take sometime to get use to. Scores would-be in the 40’s top, for sometime. Attendance at games would drop. Suspect three-point line would need to be moved way-in 7-feet, or so.
More likely, 4-point line is coming.
New three-point line probably not drop 3-point percentages much..

So NBA and college players do not have the ability to adjust is what you are saying? If so, apparently of basketball extends to 3-point shooting and inside game, with little mid-range shooting.
At current basket height, it often feels like I am shooting downhill at my 6'6" height. I can't imagine what it feels and looks like for 6'9" to 7 footers to shoot. I can't imagine a Mount Everest type effort to make the adjustments.
As for attendance, the sport may gain new spectators not previously interested in the often unskilled dunk-fest. I know I stopped watching the NBA because of it.

Has anyone every mentioned a "4 point line" in basketball? If so, what would it be?
I take it that this was a joke or sarcasm, but interesting idea, because players do occasionally put up a shot from beyond the half-court line.
Quinton Rose did it in his sophomore season - I was there (@ MSG vs South Carolina) - QR "passed" the ball on an alley oop fast break, from somewhere between the top of the key and the half court line (2/3 of the court length from the hoop) and swished it - never touched any other hands but Q's.
Should that have been a 4 point basket? Definitely!
The most spectacular basketball shot I have ever seen live, bar none.

Interesting poll results.
At this point, only 36% of those polled believe that the extended 3 poine line will have a positiive effect on NCAA basketball.
