Oh, stAte will be the same as always. Probably finish .500 in OOC. They'll lose one or two in conference that they shouldn't. They will go to a bowl with 7 wins. I hope it's better than that but I'm not hoping for much more based on the absolute chaos they've had this past year.

BTW, I think Georgia might be a pretty good football team. Same for LSU.

The story for this game. We got a check for 1.8 million. You play for this much you usually are playing the blue bloods. Just say way better. Get the check and say thanks.

I only wish you would play them. I have doubts you or any other Belt team would fare any better after what I saw today.

If you happen to play an SEC powerhouse on a day when they've got things clicking on all cylinders (as Georgia did today), things can get really ugly (as they did for Ark St today). Georgia is the real deal this year, and they'll be in the hunt for the national championship. Ark St will be fine. They'll regroup and be in the mix for the SBC west championship.

Seems like yesterday conference champ App got thumped by mediocre Miami at home. With all ASU's had to deal with most could see this coming. Take the money and grow.

I would have liked our offense to produce a few more points, that's for sure. But we're an average defensive team by Sun Belt Standards to begin with. We weren't holding a top 5 team to less than 45.

I expected nothing, got nothing, and stopped watching mid 2nd quarter. We've got a decent FCS in Southern Illinois coming in Saturday, and then we go to Troy. The key is being completely healthy before then. If that means resting our top RB this week and getting slaughtered...so be it.

Ideally, it'd be best not to play these games, but we need about 1.6 million to keep the programs running each year, which means either taking a large check from one top 15 level program and get killed, or playing two average P5 teams in winnable games, but sacrificing the ability to get that 6th home game each year.

I don’t get this anyways - let’s schedule home games vs FCS teams and have an almost guaranteed extra win strategy - everyone is doing. I would sacrifice the home game and add a second money game vs an avg P5 team. That way you make roughly 2.5M every year just with money games (+0.3M you won’t have to pay an FCS team to come to your place), and statistically you are more likely to win more games vs P5 teams.
Schedule games vs Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa St, Purdue, Indiana, etc and pocket the money and maybe get a win here and there. You can use the money to hire better coaches, upgrade facilities and build your program. I would stop doing this after a decade probably but an extra 1O - 12M over 10 years + maybe 3 additional P5 wins will help your more than 9-10 wins vs FCS teams.

Everyone wants to be the next 12-0 team and go to a NY6 bowl, however, even 12-0 SBC teams would never manage to crack the Top 10 or so and teams like UCF, USF, Boise St, BYU, Memphis, etc will always have a head start in the pre-season rankings.

Our expectations are to be competitive no matter who we play. Times have changed.

Yes, but as our administration points out. A lot of the money we require for the major donor seats in the stadium is predicated on 6 home games. The math shows that we make more having 6 homes than we do playing 5 home games and playing two 1.2 million type money games.

That, and unlike Troy, we don't exactly have an army of G5 competition willing to come to Jonesboro. We've mostly relied on playing MAC's and MWC schools to fill home games. That means most year our marquee home game is an FCS Team. Thankfully Tulsa and Memphis both have scheduled long term series to help out for the next few years, but with CUSA schools unwilling to play us anymore, we're really struggling to find opponents.

The Miami game was an abomination against an average team. Guys looked unprepared and Miami essentially ran bubble screen to either side all the way down the field. Then Marcus Cox got hurt after what would've been an 8 carries for around 120 yards by the second quarter performance.

The Georgia game is different for many reasons though. Some of what happened I think will make Arkansas State better. On the Swift touchdown I saw some poor angles being taken and the players can learn from that.
