W&M has forced zero punts in their last two games against 1-A teams.

RE: Game 2: Virginia Cavaliers
These games, especially when the opponent is a quality FBS team, is never really about winning. It’s about competing hard. Football is a talent-cumulative sport. Unlike, say baseball when a great pitcher on a lesser team can lead to upsets, football rarely allows for that. If 7 of the guys on the field are seven slightly better than yours and you’re even at 4, team A is considerably better, assuming solid coaching. (Excluding FSU from this) We gave up a 40 yard TD on a pass that probably shouldn’t have been thrown but our DBs looked at each other and neither covered. Then a pick 6 by a qb who is not quite ready for that stage. Before the kids breathed heavy they were down 14-0. Two poor punts led to two 50 yard drives for TDs and the game was truly over. All that behind us, I saw plenty to show we can compete against the majority of the rest of our schedule pretty darn well. But my worries are the same I had about our team last year: 1) no short passing game to neutralize the constant pressure our opponents will bring. 2) the reluctancy of our defense to use more bodies to bring pressure (like every team we face) 3) our kicking game
The 4th item that concerned me last year remains up in the air to me. Quarterback. I think after next week we need to settle on one. If it were me it would be Anderson or one of the othe QBs with experience but I’m afraid we are going to see more and more of Mathis. He’s a true talent but just not ready.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the concept behind the Go-Go offense, but I am still waiting on the high tempo pace that I thought was at it's core.

While he improves, I would also like to see Anderson get significant playing time. He is a 5th-year senior with lots of starting playing time at the FBS level. Rotate them in and out; use Anderson when you need passing to catch up; use Mathis when you need to ignite a spark; between the two of them, I think we'll be fine at QB.

Loved the turnovers; that's four in each game so far. Keep that up and this offense will get a lot of points capitalizing on it. (BTW, if you told me before the game that we would win the turnover battle 4-1 (including a pick-six) then I at least would have been sure that we wouldn't lose by 35 points).

Hopefully Herdman is back next week.

Looking forward to watching this team progress.

I don't think anyone realistically expected to beat the best team UVA has had in years, but I do think there were a lot of positives last night. Our boys never quit, they kept fighting and that showed in the second half. I think the Coaches need to figure out how to get things moving quicker in the game. I agree we need to see a mix of Anderson & Mathis depending on the opponent and where we are on the board. They are different, but both very talented. INTs are always a huge positive and at this level, it's good to see we can still accomplish that and TFLs. One thing I am still trying to understand, why are we using this ridiculous play with all 4 QBs in? For Shon Mitchell, in particular, I think it's just disrespectful. As a fan, I want to win as much as the next person, but as a parent, I would not tolerate that. If he doesn't fit into the plan, let him know, but don't use him. Maybe they have and he has chosen to stick it out. It was nice to see some of the other QBs move into other positions to be able to compete during the game. For them, I hope that continues.

On to the next one...

We actually scored more than I thought we would. Against other teams I think forcing 4 turnovers will have a major impact on the game.

Players need to play where coaches put them and parents should to stay out of it. Most of our players are adults and this is the time to work through issues without parental interference. I can only imagine the frustration of being a starter as a TFr only to find himself in a support role as an upperclassman, but our coaches are charged with running the team.

Of course, players and parents will discuss what's best for the player and go from there.

And caused a national leading 8 turnovers vs the same two teams.

So far this year W&M's ran 128 plays . They're averaging a play every 25.6 seconds when they have the ball. Last year they averaged a play every 28 seconds. So the offense is faster, though it's still really early. Against UVA they couldn't sustain drives and were in damage limitation mode pretty early so that didn't help.
