Golden Eagle Football Announces Roster Addition
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Head Football Coach Jeff Bower has announced the signing of Tarvarres Williams (WR, 6-1, 190, Palatka, Fla./Palatka HS) to a national letter of intent. Williams will join the 2004 Southern Miss signing class that will report for practice in August.
Williams was a two-sport standout for Palatka High School in Palatka, Fla. A three-year starter for Head Coach Jim McCool, Williams was a prominent member of the Panther offense. He finished his senior season with a combined 400 yards rushing and receiving, to go along with four touchdown receptions, despite missing some action because of injury. Throughout his career, Williams gained more than 1,200 yards combined rushing and receiving.
He was a two-time All-Putnam County selection as well as being named to the All-District 6-3A team and was selected to participate in the Florida North-South Shrine All-Star game. The Panthers finished the 2003 season with a 9-2 overall record, a district championship and a first-round playoff appearance.
Williams also was a standout basketball player, where he averaged 26 points per game and led the Panthers to the runner up finish in District 7-4A, as well as a first round appearance in the state playoffs. As a junior, he was named to the Florida Sports Writers Association All-State Basketball Team as an honorable mention selection in Class 4A.
Southern Miss, the defending Conference USA champions, continues its spring practices this week, culminating the annual Black-Gold Spring Game on April 17.
