RE: Week 1 Power Rankings
Let's give this one more week.
Too early, I mean we had somewhat of an early read.
But some of the early season favorites looked pretty bad.
I am impressed with Rice, though.

Lemay didn’t play at all in the 2nd half. 3rd and 4 th strong RB’s got the overwhelming majority of of carries in the 2nd half.
Take from that what you will.

1. USM - Only beat a SWAC team, but maybe the best one

4. MTSU - Surprising to me, performance against the team rated #5 in the nation
5. NT - Teams should fear the offense, the defense should fill them with glee
6. La Tech - Down 0-38 in third quarter and were dominated, but by a very good UT
7. Rice - Don't know how good Army is, but this game was impressive for Rice
8. FIU - Predicted the loss, Tulane is good, but not by 28 points
9. UTSA - A victory over a mediocre Southland conference team
10. UAB - A victory over a SWAC conference team
11. Charlotte - Were 31 pts favorites and won by 21
12. ODU - Edged out a bad FCS team
13. WKU - Lost to a Southland Conference team
14. UTEP - Beat a 1-10 last year Southland team by 2

I wish you that want to argue, whether your team is ranked fifth or ninth or want to dismiss someone else's opinions would forgo the comments.
If you don't agree, just post your own opinions. It is not that difficult and better than posting some inane acronym that a lot of people don't get.
What is your definition of FIFY?

Aside from placing WKU dead last, and the close FCS wins right above them, it is too hard to compare these performances. Most of us easily beat decent to bad FCS programs, while the rest lost to P5 programs. Comparing those P5 losses is pointless. All of those high ranking teams were running base packages and just a small portion of their playbooks. Yes, it is great that our programs didn't get drilled by top ranked teams, but they also were not taking their best shots either. When comparing FCS victories, the same can be said. I know North Texas didn't show most of our playbook against ACU.

That was an incorrect comment so I fix it for him. Thanks Volkmar for explaining "FIFY" to Mr. Grandgreen. Btw Mr. Grandgreen, I think more people know what "FIFY" means than this fabulous sentence you put together:
Grandgreen stated:
Quote:I wish you that want to argue, whether your team is ranked fifth or ninth or want to dismiss someone else's opinions would forgo the comments.
What's going on with the red portion of your sentence? Oh Btw = By the way. You know like just in case you didn't know.

Marshall would have never started with VMI this year had it not been for Elmore. Signing this game basically got him released from his LOI to VMI.
I don't know who we would have played but I can bet you anything it wouldn't have been VMI.

Out of all of the FCS scheduled games in week 1, VMI has to be the worst, right?

So those 6 total rushing yards we had for the game at the end of the 3rd looks a lot better today than last night? Got it.
Btw a Swac team hasnt beaten an FBS team since 1985. Thats 35 years. But they held us to 6 yards rushing with a few minutes left in the 3rd Q. Our longest rush of the game by a RB was what? Seven yards? Gimme a break. It was every bit as bad as it looked last night.
Hell, we had 200 yards rushing against Jackson St last year and we know how that year turned out. We averaged 4.5 yards a carry against Jsu. Which was terrible. Against Asu yesterday we averaged 3 yards. We have regressed.

FAU is playing second biggest game of the season, hosting #17 UCF. But, possibly, due to the the size of the egg FIU laid at Tulane, hosting UCF may be the biggest game now.

You are ‘mostly’ right. The lack of production was very concerning. The team looked like ‘second verse same as the first’. The only difference being that this Alcorn team was well coached, talented #1s and their QB would make us an 80% better team immediately if we had him. They were no Jackson State. That said, if we don’t figure out a running game we are no better than last year. The ball will have to bounce our way to win.

Per the end of 2018 FCS composite computer ratings...
36 - Central Arkansas
52- Alcorn State
53- Incarnate Word
59 - Abilene Christian
100- Garden Webb
104- Norfolk St.
111- VMI
113- Alabama State
117- Houston Baptist
https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htm
VMI had all 11 starters back on offense and something like 20 back overall, and experience is a huge difference in this game. So no, they are not the worst week 1 opponent. Are they good enough to be a barometer? No.
