14 of our 22 starters are seniors. This needs to be our year.

Agreed. Lot's of veteran talent and a really good QB. OL needs to come together and raise their play from last year in order for it to happen.

Nielsen drops some weight and moves to LT.
Sow moves inside and bumps Donnellon out of his starting LG spot.
Veteran Van Hoeven takes over at Center
Veteran Dervil takes over at RG
Young Dooley takes over the other tackle spot, but it's surprisingly at RT.

6'8.....6'5....6'5....6'5.....6'7 Should be the tallest OL in the MAC for sure.

We played three guys who all dealt with injuries. Fred Payton was just named starter and he’s a sophomore that started half of our games last year. He has a good arm and is a threat to run, just as all of our QBs are expected to run.

Our offensive line has been playing together for two solid years now with this being their third. They all started as freshmen and are a highly underrated bunch that will surprise a lot of people this year. Our defensive line starters are all very talented but lack depth. Overall depth is our biggest weakness, but our offense plays to time of possession which will help that somewhat.

Our defense may have a new coordinator, but we should really be vastly improved from last year immediately. For the last several years we had a “no hit” philosophy in practice. Our guys never tackled. And it showed. Most of those bad numbers on defense were from arm tackles and being out of position. Our new coach got rid of that ridiculous policy and it’s shown a lot of improvement in the spring game and fall scrimmage. I expect a big leap forward on defense.

Overall the weather is the wildcard. Typically 3:30 on August 31st would see blistering heat with muggy humidity, but we had a cold front come through yesterday which dropped temperatures by about 15 degrees. Right now the forecast calls for a high of 86 (rather cool) with a humidity of 70% (average). So we’ll see how it goes. If anyone is in town, enjoy the beach ??

(Ignore the user name as it’s not been updated in over four years).

I saw the Coastal depth chart. Interesting how "small" the offensive line is. Not saying they can't play, just seems like a smaller group than usual. I'm assuming they are quick.

I agree that our guys are shorter than average, but if you add up both teams’ weight, you guys only have 40lbs on us. I’m a bit shocked to see Sam Thompson (5’9) get the start over Fitzgerald (6’2) though. Fitzgerald is a transfer from Michigan and had a solid season last year. Unfortunately, we lost Brock Hoffman to VT this year. You all may have seen his viral post over the NCAA denying his medical hardship request for his mother who had a brain tumor. He was our best lineman and will be missed. Last I checked, our 2017 game against Arkansas is still on YouTube. We started all freshmen and one sophomore that game and our line completely handled that SEC defense. We led them basically the entire game until giving up a last minute TD to lose by one point. Worth a look if anyone is curious. They’ve had their ups and downs, but now that they’re upperclassmen, this should be a great year for our line.

Saw that. Poor kid. Nothing the NCAA does shocks me anymore. They know we will keep watching anyway, despite all of the awful stuff they do.

Great profile on Sexton.

Man, his quotes really inspire confidence in the WR corps this season. We've all mentioned how experienced they are, but they also have so many varied strengths.

Sexton will be a deep ball threat, Jackson is so speedy in YAC that he can bust a screen pass open for a TD, Latu is a reliable slot receiver, Dylan Drummond has GREAT hands and Quian Williams has shown he's a threat for the back-shoulder/endzone corner routes.

Hopefully they all put it together for a dynamic passing game this season.

Adding to your thought. Holder is solid in the short game and throws nice passes, Grissom could be exceptional, and Daugherty is steady.

Really would like to see a tight end catching threat in the mix maybe Oakes is the guy that can make us forget Kilby

YES, I forgot about Daugherty again. I think he'll surprise many and become the Blake Banham of this year. He has lots of YAC/open field moves.

Surprise of the 2-deeps...

Buschmen at WILL linebacker, freshmen - "walk on" I believe. I can't remember if he's a redshirt.

Redshirt defensivebacks getting behind some really experienced players.

Yeah, Buschman is a redshirt frosh. Also the brother of our former tight end Dan Buschman.

Havent seen anything, but the article from last year announcing Banham was released the day before Monmouth. So we may be expecting to hear news today or tomorrow?

I could see either Daugherty or Sexton.

Sexton is deeply committed to the program, and obviously has put up good numbers. And Daugherty has overcome so much adversity to get back on the field, which I'm sure the staff loves. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
