hackers kidnap cities' data
https://bgr.com/2019/06/28/ransomware-at...t-hackers/

3 Florida cities have had their computer systems data stolen. Lake City paid $460,000 in bitcoin. Riviera Beach paid $600,000. Key Biscayne has been breached as well.

Two Iranians were indicted last year for $6 million in ransom and over 200 attacks (including Atlanta and Newark).

Aren't they supposed to have daily backups?

My older brother is a Cisco certified network security professional and sees crap like this all the time. It's so easy to avoid yet these entities wait until the ransom, MUCH higher than the cost of securing their networks, is demanded before taking it seriously.

My nephew is into data security and its not like hackers are anything new. He's been doing it for a couple decades.

Ransomware is fairly new(decade or so). The rise of cryptocurrency gave rise to this new threat. It's amazing that people still get burned by it. A decent AV and backup program negates it.

But destruction and theft of data is not new.

Power failures, fires and natural disasters aren't new either.

That guy can really focus. I once met this woman who had a killer body with the same eyes. That was her only downside.
