UAB shows design plans for 45k seat stadium, gets insulted for not being able to sell out games.
It's as if the opposing fanbases will always have something negative to say when they aren't the ones receiving new things. Who would've thought.
I think the comments have always been consistent.... around 30K - 35K is a good size. The issue with ODU is if you have aspirations to be successful in football, why build such a small stadium? I could see that decision if you've had Charlotte size crowds.

From what I understand, it's a form of birth control and also helps to prevent the spread of STDs. Definitely more effective than pulling out, but not as exciting.
Yeah, my mind immediately goes there. Guess I'm juvenile like that. This stadium needs to be home to the Troy Trojans.

Well, it's a couple factors.
First is money, every spending action needs to be approved by the state. In order to get approved by the state, ODU decided not to increase student fees and only use private donations to pay for the stadium[1]. So, we were pretty limited by only spending $65M since that's how much we were approved to spend.
Second, trends across the country show football attendance is declining. It's pretty universal. In addition, all of the feedback ODU got from fans regarding the new stadium was very strongly in favor of "quality over quantity." I believe those two thoughts go together. So ODU's focus were larger seats, larger aisles, seatbacks, chairbacks, and good sightlines to the field. Each of those attributes reduces capacity. All of the seats are way closer to the field than they used to be. I am pretty convinced we will still have strong home field advantage, but we won't know for sure until the first game.
[1] I may need to be fact-checked on that. I know for certain student fees weren't increased, I'm not 100% confident on that 2nd part.

Yes that is what i heard. No Student fee increase and the second part is also true where if we need to increase budget allocated to the stadium more than 10% it will need to go through approval again. We should be soon be compliant with the 55% limit imposed by the state. Man that Kirk Cox was a douche nozzle SOB. That bill was a joke and we are still one of the cheapest schools in VA.

It's true that we didn't raise them to help pay for the new stadium. But we can use the current revenue generated by student fees to help pay on the debt service.

You can't schedule USM every game to help you fill it and no other team in this conference can help you fill it. Kids get in free day will turn in to kids always free, which will turn it to $5 tickets..just come...please.
Hell, fill your own stadium before you wrinkle your brow about ours.
