29 Sep 1973 at Ole Miss 0-41 L
28 Sep 1974 at Ole Miss 14-20 L
27 Sep 1975 at Ole Miss 8-24 L
25 Sep 1976 Ole Miss 0-28 L
24 Sep 1977 at Ole Miss 27-19 W
30 Sep 1978 Ole Miss @ Jackson, MS 13-16 L
29 Sep 1979 Ole Miss @ Jackson, MS 38-8 W

Since 1966 Ole Miss has one 12 to USM's 6. In the last 15 matchups the record is Ole Miss 9, USM 6. Last 10 games 5 and 5. Last 5 games, USM 4 to Ole Miss 1.

thanks, I didn't know it had been that long since you played each other. I guarantee if we beat them 4 out of the last 5 times played they would be looking to end the series with Memphis also.

They did end it for several years when they were on probation in the 90's.

I don't think I'll ever forget that 1970 game against # 4 ranked OM. I was 14 and living in Hattiesburg. I listened to the game on the radio (I think Bill Goodrich was the announcer) from the front porch of our house. Everytime Wee Willie Heidelburg scored a touchdown, I'd jump off the porch and go running around to the backyard, all excited to tell my dad who was working in the yard. By the fourth quarter, he had stopped working and was listening to the game with me. Everytime USM had a good play, both of us would swing a right fist through the air and yell "YEAH". When the game ended, I think I jumped up and down for a good 15 minutes yelling "We won! We won!". Dad just wore this great big grin on his face. I remember the whistles at Hercules blowing for several minutes off in the distance. I guess the neighbors thought I had gone crazy.

Three years later, I went with my dad and uncle to that horrible game in Oxford (remembered as the Johnny Vaught game). That long, miserable ride back to H'burg was so painful and I was so disappointed.

My dad passed away the following year so I never got the chance to see another Ole Miss game with him. But I'll always remember that game listening on the porch and sharing the excitement with him.
