[URGENT] AOC Needs Your Help
04-jawdrop

Reminder, this is the woman the democrats want to hand our (and thus, the world's) economy over to, to fix.

RE: [URGENT] AOC Needs Your Help
what is bougie? I guess I need to go to the slang dictionary for that.

I doubt any of you try watching it but Knock Down The House is a pretty good documentary on Netflix and it's astonishing to see how far she has come in a year. Basically a year ago, AOC was a waitress at a Bronx restaurant. I'm not a fan of all her ideas, but honestly after seeing the documentary, I have more respect for her intellect and character.

The documentary isn't just on her - it's also about three other unlikely political candidates (who all end up losing against established candidates like a WV lady who loses to Manchin in the Democratic Senator primary).

ETA - Bougie (from slang dictionary)

Aspiring to be a higher class than one is. Derived from bourgeois - meaning middle/upper class, traditionally despised by communists.

"When my friend Miya wears a blazer or Lucy gets a massage I call them bougie cause we're unemployed college students."

RE: [URGENT] AOC Needs Your Help
Count me as an AOC fan. I am convinced that her flakey, self-absorbed persona, her totally childish outlook and cartoonish approach to politics and life in general is doing more to restore sanity in American society than any serious person (politician, pundit or otherwise) could possibly ever do. She is a walking, talking poster that effectively illustrates the stupidity and fundamental iniquity of socialism.

Add to that her remarkable achievement in knocking off an entrenched swamp creature: Joe Crowley. No Republican could have done that.

I also think that AOC is, at heart, a basically good person. I've not watched the documentary (and won't), but my impression is that she is wrongheaded but at least sincere in her beliefs.

Contrast AOC with her media-blessed Congressional sisters: Omar and Tlaib. Those two are what truly nasty political animals look like, and need to be condemned at every opportunity. I hope that they both are soundly defeated in 2020. I, on the other hand, hope that AOC remains in Congress for the rest of her career. She is an invaluable marker for illustrating the consequences to our nation if we allow progressives to set our agenda.

Except that a garbage disposal is not remotely bougie. It's about as 'common' as you can get these days. Bougie is a three or four trash can drawer with one for compost, one or two for recycling and one for 'landfill'. It (recycling and composting) is most likely part of her new green deal.

The documentary mentions how she went to a pretty elite high school in the NYC suburbs. I think in it she claims she was the only hispanic student there (probably not true, but it was probably a very upper class neighborhood).

The documentary also makes it clear she's being handled by a bunch of very seasoned political operatives. Obviously, she's allowing herself to be manipulated by others, but I really don't get the sense that 3 or 4 years ago, she envisioned much for herself other than being a working class person in the Bronx.

Her dad died when she was in college, and apparently left the family without much to live on. So I think that part of the story is accurate.

If memory serves her dad either was a partner or owner of the firm that he worked at, so I find that hard to believe unless he was in deep debt. Again I also laugh when multi millionaires claim they're broke, and it means they only are worth a couple million or something.. I highly doubt she had any student debt from BC.. And they lived in an affluent neighborhood.

I said this before, I think she's a Manchurian candidate or she's the experiment before it happens. You've said so yourself, she probably wasn't interested in politics 3-4 years ago.

BTW.. Graduating high in your class at BC with a degree in Economics prepares you to be more in life than a waitress...

OH and my country ass knows what a garbage disposal is, I didn't know what one was until I lived in Florida after college, but I had at least heard of them.

Totally agree. I voted for Gary Johnson, but he was ultimately the one who let himself and his supporters down.

It's not like he could ever have won. But he didn't he certainly could have made a far better showing.

2016 was the year for a strong Independent. Perot was ahead of his time.

I couldn't in good conscience cast my vote for him after those two things, and then his comment about, I promise not to smoke weed on the campaign trail. Seriously dude...

I definitely couldn't vote for HRC...

I view my Father in Law as a man with a great wealth of knowledge and that September I was visiting him and he picked me up in Cleveland at the airport and on the way home he pointed out the signs (my in laws are from Western PA).. In the two hours we rode, he spoke of how the past 8-10 years had been hard for this part of the country due to the economy, loss of jobs, etc... He said look at Trump's failures and his victories, and then you'll see why he needs to be in office..

Yea I held my nose and voted for Trump..

Guess what, in 2020, I won't be holding my nose when I cast my vote for him again.

Just because the family was struggling when she was in college, that doesn't erase 19-20 years of "privilege." She was better off than at least 75% of Americans.

Only 30-40% of adults have a college degree. Maybe these days the degree doesn't prepare students for much, but she does have better credentials than most Americans and most Americans do better than a career as a waitress.

Some of the people behind her are truly scary. There is a VERY real movement by the 'justice democrats' (don't know how to define that group, but that is what I understand they call themselves) to push the party WAY WAY WAY left.
