Nice come back victory today, especially since we gifted MTSU 4 of their 5 runs-- 3 unearned runs on 3 errors, and another run on a typical Gayle wild-ason (2 BBs, HBP, 2 WPs). Terrific game by the top of our order as Comeaux, Gneitting and Cruz went a combined 8-15, 2 doubles, 6 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

Back to .500 in conference play, but we play the toughest part of our schedule over the final four weeks. The only top team we've already played is FAU. Both LaTech and USM have been en fuego of late, and WKU is playing well, as well.

Just curious if you were at the game today. Kendall and Gayle kept us in this game and kept it close giving us an opportunity to come back. Gayle and his CB looked really good for 2-1/3 innings. The WP’s were on spiked CB’s that in most cases are called from the bench with confidence in Collins to block which he did. It’s not like he threw it to the backstop. The HBP was on a bunt attempt that most at the game, including coaches, felt the batter offered at. A double play was not made after SS and 2B ran into each other. Not an error as DP cannot be assumed but it was a textbook DP if not for that. Kendall looked great for 2-3 innings as well with just a slight struggle in the 9th which to his credit he got through with no damage.

Comments without context are just words on a page that don’t tell the story. I appreciate brevity as much as the next person but I’m also a believer in providing contextual info. Just my thoughts as alway. Great series sweep. Let’s enjoy it for today and give credit to the team for a well played series.

No, I was not at today's game, but watched the second half of it. Kendall was lights out for his first 2.2 innings, and saved Gayle by getting out of the 6th inning with only a sac fly. As I posted, he did appear to run out of gas in the 9th (giving up 3 hits as well as a line shot out), but as you say, to his credit he was able to get out of it with that game-ending DP.

Gayle wasn't exactly lights out in any of his innings, despite striking out 4. And he started the 6th inning: single, hit batter, ground out, wild pitch, 5-pitch walk, to load the bases with one out...before Jeffries came in and bailed him out. (The inherited runner that Jeffries allowed was on a short pop behind 1B that resulted in a sac fly.) Gayle had lost all sense of the strike zone by that point. Gayle's WHIP for today's outing was 2.30, and his WHIP for the year is 1.79. Neither very good. Again, he's got elite stuff, with a quality FB and a plus, plus curveball. The problem is he has very little control of his pitches, and his wildness does him in more times than not.

Agree, especially on Gayle. Walked 2, 4 Ks, though both of those are suspect because of the horrid ball/strike calls behind the plate. Better repertoire, better control - at least compared to his history.

If he can repeat that level of performance he can be a real asset. And as long as I'm talking about improved play, the performance gain for Kravetz, Dunlap and Cox is remarkable. Watching that development is one of the main reasons I like following college baseball. My all-time prizes in that category are jeff Neimann and Tony Cingrani.

Neimann never struggled the way Kravetz and Cox did. Jeff actually had a quality Freshman campaign before his dominant, national POY sophomore season. Cingrani and Kravetz are similar, though Tony only struggled his first year here, and in fairness, some of that can be attributed to his mother's passing. He came here as a very highly regarded JUCO transfer out of Illinois.
Dunlap's big jump in development came in 2017, and continued with much improved plate discipline last year. Cox is still striking out way too much, but he's making much better contact when he does hit the ball, and his defense this year has been stellar.

It appears that you give little credit to Gayle keeping it a close game for almost 3 innings and chose to ignore the actual game situations I mentioned which is fine. You also seem to always have a caveat in your comments, not just on Gayle, but it is apparent at least on him here. Elite stuff BUT poor command. Good FB BUT flat. Plus CB BUT tip the pitch. I see a pattern here. Did you see his outing at A&M? I could look back but don’t recall your comments. I apologize in advance if you were complementary without a “ BUT”. Did you see Sam Houston outing? Did you see Texas outing? High quality opponents. I know the kid has had some struggles, especially early on in the season which have inflated his stat numbers, but if you more consistent in your praise for his good outing (caveat free), if there are any, as you are for his poorer showings I believe your comments would carry more weight at least with me.

Gayle has a very high quality arm (not just amateur me saying that BTW) and command is improving. You don’t get a 0.45 ERA in the Cape without command and elite stuff. Also against All Star teams where every batter is elite.

Go Owls. Let’s finish strong!!

I think we have to keep Kendall in the bullpen, as he's the only truly reliable reliever we've got. In fact, Bragga needs to use him more than simply one game and 2 - 3 innings per week. He needs to be both our Friday and Sunday closer. In fairness to Jackson P., he pitched well against Charlotte last weekend-- simply got no run support, and didn't pitch that badly against MTSU, as 3 of the 4 runs he gave up were unearned on 3 errors.

I don't know. If the same situation comes up where Kendall has not pitched the first 2 games, he needs to start game 3. Jackson was only throwing 83 to 85 Sunday. That is a long drop off of 89 to 91 to start the season.
