As is Larry Brown and Rick Pitino.

Larry Brown would take the job in a heartbeat but you'll only have him for 2-4 years max. Pitino would likely retire at Cincy

Rick Pitino is radioactive. Hiring him would subject the President and AD to intense media criticism and I do not think they have the stomach for it.

It still strikes me as a really weird situation. Cincinnati fans (at least on this board) seemed to overwhelmingly want Cronin gone. But he routinely got you to the NCAA Tournament, pulled in good recruiting classes, and just landed the head coaching job at one of the most successful, big-time basketball programs in the country.

This may turn out to be one of those "careful what you wish for" situations. I hope not, for the AAC's sake. We need Cincy to be Cincy.

he has been offered the goergia and unlv job..he turned down both..

in 2018 he said he wasnt ready to return yet.....
https://larrybrownsports.com/college-bas...job/433066

he has been in ohio his entire life, cincy might be the job he might be willing to take

IMHO- (order of operation for cincys AD)

1) thad matta should get the 1st call, see where his mind is at..he is the home run

2) then meet with your higher up at cincy and really evaluate the worth of pitino...pitino is hungry too (said he can make a program elite just yesterday)

3) evaluate nick van excel and see if he has any aau ties...imho this is the riskiest hire, and only secure if he has some ties to recruits ..college and pros are completely different things

4) if all 4 steps above fail, hire Brannen as the safe pick

Thad hasn't been in Ohio his entire life.... he was born in Illinois and played and coached at Butler prior to becoming the Xavier and OSU coach.

That being said if he is healthy he would be a serious candidate if he was interested. He'd be able to recruit well in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois for the Bearcats. Those states were a staple of UC basketball up until the Mick Cronin era.

not really 8% on personal income taxes is less than a half million difference at that income level, food ect is not that much higher and utilities even if doubled would be less than $10,000 difference

and real estate you only take a hit if you lose money when you sell if you buy and sell and break even or better then the cost of acquisition does not really matter

he will probably net $500,000 a year or better and probably closer to $750,000 after all taxes

"A salary of $2,250,000 in Cincinnati, Ohio should increase to $4,899,275 in Los Angeles, California (assumptions include Homeowner, no Child Care, and Taxes are not considered.)"

Source

that chart made no sense

190% more for transportation.....even if he spends $10,000 a year on gas now (yea no massively overinflated number) that is still only $9,000 a year more

the seemed to count housing at least 2 times and again the cost of the purchase is a one time cost and if you break even when you sell you get that added cost back when you move unless people think he will retire there after he is done coaching or is fired

the food cost are marginal as are pretty much all the other things listed

and they are pretending like making $2.75 million Vs $4 million is a comparable situation to someone making $275,000 Vs $400,000 where the large difference in the cost of a house really eats into the rest of your income

when you are making 10X that the housing cost are not eating into the rest of your lifestyle unless you were blowing every penny you earned in the hot bed of lifestyle of Cincy and thinking you will do the same or better in LA (at a job where you work 10 or 12 hour days frequently and travel often)

and again all that housing cost comes right back to him unless there is a massive housing market readjustment between now and when he moves...and he can always just rent especially if the cost of renting is lower than the cost of ownership which happens frequently in places like LA especially with higher priced homes

using that (poorly explained and seemingly very redundant) COL comparison is not close to the same for a mid 7 figures income Vs a mid 6 figure income

It is a risk finding someone better than Cronin. However, Cronin appears to have reach his ceiling and a program of Cincy’s pedigree should achieve higher results. It is worth the risk, IMO.

People are waiting at the Southern border to get out of Cali, so he will lose money one way or another.

There's a reason all those "elite" coaches tuned down UCLA... Don't forget Admission fraud cases as well!! 03-lmfao

You guys did a good job hitting on some of the guys I think Bohn should talk to. Here's my Starting list of coaches I'd talk to: Chris Beard (I know not happening, but at least give a pitch on how if he can make the championship at Texas Tech he can win multiple at an historic program like UC), Dave Smart, John Brannen, Thad Matta, Wes Miller, Steve Forbes, Leon Rice

If you live reasonably normal, a big raise will be virtually the same anywhere.
