That is awesome! The story behind it is awesome too: the donation for the Acagrill was a surprise that my wife did in my honor of my 40th birthday. I learned of it at the party (also a surprise) that she threw for me at Willy's Pub that day. That clever lady had had many secret conversations with Development to identify a gift opportunity and arrange the gift -- all without me finding out. It is the most remarkable gift I have ever been given, on any occasion.

A thousand thanks to all of you for all your kind words! Needless to say, my wife and I are pretty excited. In fact, I was so excited that I posted something on LinkedIn about it:
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/award-fro...orge-webb/

If you're interested in going to the Laureates Dinner, tickets are available here:
https://alumni.rice.edu/Laureates
It really it is a fun time -- I've been several times and always enjoy it. But the best part is the cocktail hour at the beginning, so make sure you get there for that.

Meanwhile, please don't forget that TOMORROW (April 4) is Rice's
"24 Hour Challenge": if 4000 alumni make a gift (of any amount, to any part of Rice) on that day, it will trigger a $400,000 matching gift to the Rice Investment. This link explains it all: http://giving.rice.edu/onerice

You can designate your gift to Rice Athletics, Rice Engineering Alumni, the Annual Fund, or wherever you want it to go.

Update: the suggested deadline for online reservations is Wednesday May 1. Here is the link:

I'm not sure if that's a firm cut-off, but it might be.

I hope many of you can come -- it would be fun to have a Parliament cheering section!

George, I think you taking being called a "user" quite well.

Maybe change "user" to "poster" in the title?

I just learned that the videos from the Laureates Dinner have been posted on YouTube. Here are those links, and more links than you would ever need:

1. Video introduction at the Laureates Dinner: https://youtu.be/NlB4rmtMVbI

2. My remarks at the Laureates Dinner: https://youtu.be/jLZB1GmPAoo (It's about 3.5 minutes, and consists almost entirely of me thanking my nominators, my immediate family, and most of all my dear, patient, wonderful wife)

3. Text of my remarks (which I really enjoyed working on): https://www.linkedin.com/in/georgewebb/d...696563963)

4. Rice News announcement of the 2019 awards, including the official award citations:
"ARA to present Gold Medal, Distinguished Alumni, Meritorious Service awards"
https://news.rice.edu/2019/03/28/ara-to-...-awards-4/

5. School of Engineering announcement:
"2019 Rice Laureates include three engineering alumni"
https://mailchi.mp/f4ce6d8e036b/deans-me...-23-822305

6. Updated LinkedIn article:
"An award from my alma mater"
