There is a difference... winning the A10 game in Richmond would do a lot more for our resume. The point is to improve our at large chances, not play in a building. If we want to play in a historic building, just schedule a H/H with Penn or take a buy game at the Dean Dome or Cameron Indoor.

Beating St. Johns in NYC would absolutely help our record and losing wont hurt it.

Last year, we were too good to take a buy game from a top tier P5 team and now we are about to accept one from a bottom tier Big East team?

I would think the chance to get a quad 1 (maybe 2) win would help the resume.

I hope we take another buy-game. Syracuse was fun.

2019-2020 Nonconference Schedule
For context, there are about 20 mid major teams with higher kenpom than St John's. A buy in game would be quite sad.

St John’s is absolutely better than VCU (maybe not next season, but most years). And a BE win carries way more weight than a A10 one. If Wofford, Belmont, Murray St and VCU can get decent NET scores there is absolutely no reason ODU can’t also.

RE: 2019-2020 Nonconference Schedule
They had a NET ranking of 73 this year, so should be very winnable but good enough (barely) for a tier one win at their place. That's the kind of game we'd want I'd think. Maybe a little higher profile than that. It'd be nice to have a few of these opportunities in conference.

Going forward we will be playing 1 pay game every year. Discussions are ongoing with future opponents

A lot could happen, but they should be much better next year. They got a 4 star transfer from NC State in Steere and 2 really good JUCO players. Their only senior is Marvin Clark. Ponds, if he returns, could be preseason big east player of the year.

St. Johns would be a Quad 1 win.

Yeah, you get a chance to play in the Garden, you do it! We can add other teams to help with all this ranking crap too.

Also would be very happy for a St. John's game at the Garden

Who? Hofstra or CofC are the only ones worth playing.

Former CAA team....Mason?

To be clear, I don't hate the opponent. It seems odd that this is the buy game of the year, is all. Going from Syracuse to St John's is a bit of a let down, imo.

Okay, I should read more closely. Missed this on the first page. Great opportunity to play at MSG!

RE: 2019-2020 Nonconference Schedule
This is why we nee a scheduling aliance with other mid-major schools. If we could play top 150 mid major teams instead of sub 250 teams it would vastly help our schedule. I know you dont know what you are getting before the year but we know Fairfield, UMES, and Morgan St are not cutting it. We need to get away from the MEAC unless its Norfolk St.

St. John's hasn't had a better season than VCU since '99-'00 and the ensuing 4 seasons were vacated. LOL, they've been terrible for a long time.

Agreed. But on the flip side, this is a much easier sell to our better halves.

That's my point. I'd be fine with a H/H with them.

They are an at large NCAA team this year and have been top 100 over the past 3 years. Top 50 3 times between 2011 and 2015.

They were better than VCU just last year. Also better than them in all the Jeff Capel/Mack Mccarthy years.

Terrible?

Wrong about everything but 2013-2015. They were top 50 those years. They've had 8 losing seasons in the last 15 years and 3 where they were 1 game over. They've only had 3 20-win seasons since 99-00 and one of those was only good enough to get in the NIT (I'm not counting the 2 20-win seasons that were vacated in all the Jeff Capel/Mack McCarthy years because they cheated). In the last 20 years, this would be the 3rd non-vacated NCAA tournament appearance. Forget VCU, that is worse than ODU.

Not sure I'd call the Big East P5 anyway outside of Villanova, but are there any other P5 teams that have worse than 3 NCAA appearances in this time? Maybe Boston College, DePaul or Northwestern?

Yes, taking a buy game from them would be an embarrassment.
