I'm not sure the probs were correct but now they are 100%.

I got about 64%. The probability of a joint event (UB winning .and. BG winning) = prob of UB winning (supposedly 99%) x prob of BG winning (supposedly 65%).

.99 x .65 = .64.

20 - 20 hindsight = 100% probs.

How can one assign any accurate probability of victory to an event with as many variables as a basketball game? I think only those who inhabit Maddawg’s world think that can be done. That word “supposedly” looms large in any attempt at statistical analysis.

I’m no statistics whiz but I’m pretty sure your level of confidence in an event happening has almost no relationship to the probability of that event happening.

I'm no statitician, but by my math there is a 100% chance of a MAC East vs MAC East title game.

The MAC East in the last 15 years has accounted for 25 out of the 30 finals teams and 14 out of the last 15 tournament championships.

Make that 15 of the last 16 ...

I'd put the 23-2 Mix-Brisker team up against them. Both NBA guys. Mix, a NBA AllStar. Toledo blew out Va Tech at Blacksburg. Then lost to them in the NCAA's. Va Tech lost to Dayton in OT in the tourney. Dayton lost to UCLA with some guy named Kareem in the NCAA Championship game.

That 1966-67 Toledo had a starting five that would match up well with UB, but I think the depth and the overall athleticism of Buffalo would be too much for the Rockets in this day and age...
Also, Rich Majerus’s teams from the early 90’s were awfully good...

I’d say yes if they beat a couple of top 10 teams and another team in the top 15 in the tourney, make the Elite 8 and end the season ranked in the top 15. Until then, 2002 KSU is still the standard.

Their first test is to show they can beat better teams than they have so far. It’s not their fault that they haven’t had a chance to face top 10 teams, but what they do from this point on is what will make their legacy, not what they’ve done so far. And I’m rooting for them to do it.

1000-percent spot on ... 2002 Kent team (with a first-year head coach) did not have the regular season Buffalo did (although a tick better MAC season) ... but absolutely set the NCAA Tournament Gold Standard.

Buffalo will not face a T25 team/conference champion out of the gate, and KSU faced three straight and won. To this day it is hard to understand why that team is not nationally recognized for what they did as a mid-major ... Butler, Gonzaga, VCU, George Mason ... nobody has come close to that.

Butler, VCU, and George Mason all made it to the final 4 (Butler to the title game 2x). Had Kent won 1 more game people would probably still be talking about that run like they do the other teams you mentioned.

With Buffalo, Akron and Kent either on top or consistently good in that time.

Starting around the time of the move of the tourney to Cleveland they've been the face of the conference.

Certainly agree, and all valid points ... I guess what this shows is Kent had a more impressive run to the E8 than those teams had to the final four ... But you are right ... The Final Four makes it all legit.

Six seed and headed to Tulsa. UB will have to really earn their way to the second weekend, especially if they get Texas Tech which I think is a particularly bad matchup for the Bulls. But better than the 5 seed which would catch Gonzaga in round 2.

I was hoping for a 5 seed but can’t argue too much about a 6. UB got seeded in front of Nevada and Wofford but behind Marquette which is fair.
My main quibble is with being sent to Tulsa. Was really hoping to drive to a game in either Hartford or Columbus. Oh well. Can’t do the 1,800 mile drive to Tulsa and R/T airfare is minimum $1,300 per person.

At my older age am I becoming senile? I'm looking at the field of NIT teams and am not seeing UT. I would have guessed they'd be a lock.

Edit: senile it is. They're a 6th seed and play @ Xavier.

Who is Rick Barnes?

Do you mean Ben Braun, who coached the 1996 EMU Eagles over Duke?

Buffalo while I hope they go all the way with all due respect look like a second round NCAA team.

They remind me of a lot of the Cincinnati teams which had power conference level front court, a decent NCAA seed but lack an NBA level talent in the backcourt which is key in tight games when its even in the paint.

UB will get a loose but possibly tired team in round 1. arizona state and st johns need to fly to cincy or columbus and bus to dayton. finish their wednesday night game around 1130 pm. get to Tulsa sometime on Thursday and play a Friday afternoon game against a rested Buffalo team. Usually that first four winner is playing loose on borrowed money and not easy to beat, but sometimes they run out of gas.

UB's 2nd round game will be tough but I expect UB to take TT to the wire if they both win Friday. Merely on competitiveness and effort.

You need to use Google Flights and search again - if you live somewhere in the Washington DC or Baltimore area as your location suggests, there are flights from BWI, Reagan or Dulles from around $600 roundtrip.

Go for it you only live once!

i live closest to BWI and Southwest is the best way to go. It would be me and my son and it shows $1,600+ total for both of us. Still cost prohibitive for me when you include tix, hotel, car rental, etc.. Anaheim (LAX or SNA) is a good bit less so hopefully they advance!
