I doubt they are as foolish in real life.

This is a bit like asking if a person should fulfill all academic requirements for four or five years and then decide to drop out of school a week before graduation.

Says a lot that a third of the respondents fell that skipping the tourney is a good idea and that regular season performance is all we should focus on.

Not that I can recall. Maybe a pre-emptive strike in anticipation of NCAA sanctions so they self-imposed a ban? Otherwise, I doubt it has ever happened.

I think one of Al McGuire's Marquette teams did it once in protest, maybe in 1970. They accepted an NIT invite instead.
